I was lucky enough to snag a beautiful Lakland 55-01 off of a local TBer who did a great job keeping it pristine and having the Nordstrand upgrade installed. Bought it last week and played a gig with it the next day and it was a monster!.

It's a beautiful top, but I think that kind of wood top looks off on a Lakland, and especially with a poly finish.

Yeah, there is. And I think that about painted bodies. But that's just me.

I'll go with that top any day. To you point, the one thing that bugs me a bit about the deluxe tops is the lack of an accent piece or something for the transition on the natural tops. (The burst finishes take care of this on the edges, but again, I like the clear coat.)

Hey Lakland fans, I've got a quick question... I've recently acquired a 55-01 and had some Big Singles installed by the guys at Bass San Diego. It sounds absolutely killer now but I've noticed the strings don't align with the pole pieces. Everything seems shifted to the bass side. Check out the photo. Is this an issue with the nut slots? I had a problem similar to this with a G&L I used to own and a new nut fixed it. I was curious about some opinions.. Ignore the love gouges in the PG, I found out the hard way I used the wrong sized bit.

Looking at a 55-01 and 55-64 and trying to decide on this. I'm falling more and more in love with P'ish type tones these days, but don't know if I'll miss having 2 pickups to work with. Any thoughts to guide me? Fit or finish any different?

I thought I read somewhere that the 55-01 neck pup was a reverse wired P pickup or something...

I have both and yes you can get a good "P-ish" tone from the 55-01 but the tone from the 55-64 is monstrous! I used mine on my band's EP and the engineer just raved about the bass's growl!

I have a USA 55-94 and a Skyline 55-64. I have found that I prefer the body shape of the 55-94 but do have to say that the feel of the two necks is almost identical. The 55-64 is probably the "biggest bang for the buck" bass that I have ever played, in ANY dollar range. Just an amazing bass.

With my recent retirement, I have decided to downsize a bit and the 55-64 is on the block, leaving me as a 1 - Lakland sad guy! My Regenerate M5 was just shipped out and I am deciding the both, only one? - is so, which one questions between my 535 and Ken Lawrence Associate 5. And then there is the question on amps...

Never ending cycle with me!

Hey all. Got a question for you. I picked up a super awesome 55-94 Deluxe today and have been playing with the controls a bit. My question is with the pan control. Turned to the beige side it singles out the bridge pup and the volume is good and solid. Turned to the neck side, it singles out the neck pup, but when turned all the way the volume really cuts quite a bit. Just wondering if this is normal as this is my first Lakland 55-94.

I would say that is not normal. At least for me. If anything, mine seems to be a bit louder using only the neck pup. Maybe a short?

Minor cosmetic exception: Brian Gingrich told me that FB face position markers are plain maple without the centered birds-eye as found on US non-Classics. He also verified the tuners are Hipshot overseas license, but they haven't had any problems with them. Nice that the bridge is standard Lakland US.

I have a US Classic 44 Dual J inbound, curious how 1.6" nut will feel, and how 44 shape balances on knee because fighting the neck dive of my Fenda J is getting old. And of course compare tone of Lakland J pups.
