I think Lakland price might be a reflection of how many were made, and not the quality. If I were teaching, I'd recommend a used Skyline to a student that could last them forever if they wanted. One bass purchase. No GAS needed.
At that price...I'd assume so...but STILL a great deal on a US for the price of a new Skyline!
Excuse me while I laugh hysterically at this thought!!! Skyline's are great basses, but no bass is good enough to prevent GAS.
I'm fairly GAS free as far as basses are concerned.... But I've got quite a bit of variety to make me that way....
Not to say that I don't lust now and again....
I've got other unrelated GAS issues which can be just as expensive.... So....
Ok and what makes the neck quartersawn if not direction of the cut and grain shape? I al not wood expert, just curious..
Trees aren't perfect cylinders, growth rings aren't perfect cylinders, and coloration isn't homogenous. It's possible depending on where a board is cut from in the tree to get some odd looking figuring even with quartersawn.

After having the DJ 5 for a couple of months and doing several gigs it seems like it just keeps sounding better! We had a fun outdoor gig for Home Depot today and we really got to crank things up. Talk about tone.....and the playability of this bass is awesome. I think the Lakland will be staying for a while......
