I have DR Pure Blues on my 44-64 right now, which are great, but are a bit too loose for my taste.

There were definitely issues. I had to dowel and re-drill the necks, but they turned out great. It only took me about 30 minutes.
Really nice, Stupid question, are the chisonics supposed to be modern sounding? do they sound like anything else?
ChiSonics are an awesome mix of vintage and modern. IMO, they are better passive. They have the wooly vintage warmth with the punch of modern. Very balanced. I've had 3 sets of them, one in a passive 44-60 that was the best sounding Jazz I've ever played and two in a couple of 55-01s with US Bart pre. They are nice active, but really shine in passive.
I've heard the 55-01 preamp is not voiced well. It's probably not a good measure of the pickups with that particular active pre. I'd be interested in a comparison of pickups with maybe the 55-02 or other successful active bass.
(Not to say the 55-01 is terrible. Just not my favorite Lakeland)
Read it again...I'm using the US Bart pre, not import that Lakland and Ibanez use stock.
When comparing the 5502 and 5501 with Us Bart pre and MK5CBC pups, the 5501 is much more aggresive and thick, very PBass on steroids. The 5502 is much more polite. I prefer the upgraded 5501. Its just as versatile as the 5502 if you use learn to use the controls.
They make direct drop-ins for 44/55-01s and jazz basses. The ChiSonics with the chrome surrounds require additional routing.

Anyway I have a couple questions, after doing some research on the 55-07 I found that wasn't a lot available as compared to other models. I do understand it was a limited run, but what I find confusing is the following.
All seem to have active/passive electronics with 5 knobs and a switch. The one I'm looking only has 3 VVT. Also the Chisonic pickups seem to appear very classic rectangular. Whereas the one I'm looking seems to have a wider shorter profile.
So what years where they made? Does the serial number indicate that? Where there any passive electronic models produce during that time of manufacturing? Below is pic for referencing. Really my main concern is this the real deal.
Full disclaimer: The person I'm transacting with is the most upfront guy really cool guy that I've dealt with amicably in the past. So there's no issue of there integrity. But maybe some beforehand may have been missed.
Am I getting the real deal is the simple question.

Yes, I've seen a few passive versions like this floating around. The smaller casings mean they're single coil Chisonics. The typical 55-07 (not that there are many) came with a pre and humbucking Chis, which come in the wider housing. Looks legit to me!
The serial number may help, but some of the limited run models have their own set. Try this link (hasn't been updated in 7 years, though). Invalid Link Removed
It's also possible you've got a 55-JJ (essentially) with single coil chisonics. If that's a US Lakland, the original customer probably wanted a chisonic Jazz with the -94 body.

What you have there is not a 5507. As Greg mentioned 5507s were all humbuckers with preamps.
What you have there is one of 3 passive 55 JJ CS basses ( the "sisters") which were made just before the company transferred ownership.
There was this one...A gold one "midas" which I believe may be for sale now ( ??? If not sold) and a black one which went to Russia and read later converted to a Fretless bass and had a preamp installed.
These were some of the very last "Dan Lakin" built basses.
They are great players....I saw all three at the factory and played Midas

Totally agree. I own both on Skylines and the Chi-sonics sound fuller, especially the mids and lower.
Here's the Lakland arm of my bass family. Love them all equally!

As Basspraiser said. There were 3. I am the original owner of the gold bass. Midas.
The way I understood. these were made at the end of Dans time at the head of Lakland.
These were made with parts that were "laying around".
All were passive, with single coil Chisonics.
Mine was an awesome bass.
Bloody hell! That's a nice bass.
I do love those blocks & binding and matching headstock Laklands. Got a DJ4 myself, hence the love.
