My pair of DJ5s. Both began as light (8.5lbs), stock charcoal silver/rw. I put the custom 'guard on 1 and had Pat Wilkins refin the other. It's a subtle variant on TTB: Longhorn burnt orange with blackburst edges-has a little more pop than a smooth burst IMO. These are my absolute favorite J style basses. Apologies for the cell phone pics.

The new band I am in plays at much saner volume levels than my last one, and doesn't tune down a 1/2 step, so instead of keeping 1 bass tuned down as my only "band" bass, I can now use any of my Lakies with my Walkabout in the band context and have never been this consistently content with my sound.

what is the inside color called?
The inside is "Texas Longhorn" orange. I'm not a big fan of the team, but it's my favorite burnt orange. Pat duplicated it for me. Normally I'm not into TTB, but the orange that's not faded but instead framed at the edges does it for me. I wasn't sure based on the pics he sent me, but in the flesh it's a winner, and those pups just nail the sound in my head, especially through the Walkabout. I actually prefer it to the tone of my 5594, although the 2 are totally different tonal beasts and the 94 is a lot more versatile. The silver/black paisley on the charcoal is a crazy whim. I still have white and the original transparent 'guards for that one, but I dig the bohemian vibe the paisley gives it.

I would like join the lakland crew. I have had this bass for almost 2 yrs and did not play it on a gig cause I thought it to be too heavy
Recently I have play it and can't put it down ...Is this normal behavior?

I must say, I've had a MM Stingray, Marcus Miller, Warwick, and many others...this is absolutely the best I've played. Now maybe it's just a real good fit for my hands and fingers..
Could be, but Lakland necks are known for their comfort and playability. They don't have "shoulders" like some other bass necks. Just a joy to play.
I've narrowed the search to possible Neo-punch replacements to Duncan Antiquity II's or Fralins. Realize this is personal choice and very subjective - but what are thoughts on either of these from personal experience? I'm looking for a more vintage vibe for 44-64 strung w/ LaBellas and soul, R&B, N.O. Funk band.
Here's a crappy couple of shots of my Laklands: a 2002 first Gen Korean 55-02 with Barts and US Hipshot Ultralights (8.65lbs!)and a 1998 5594 deluxe with old Barts. I'm not gigging without them!
