Sweet quilt on that '94, Martone.

Here's another pic of my Wilkins refin with the clear 'guard.....I like it because it's farther from the traditional TTB than when it sports the tort.

The Neo's are pretty hot, but you can 'mellow' them out with EQ. Fralins would be my choice if I was going for more of the vintage vibe as you described. A little more polite than the Neo's IME.

Normally I'm not into TTB, but the orange that's not faded but instead framed at the edges does it for me. I wasn't sure based on the pics he sent me, but in the flesh it's a winner, and those pups just nail the sound in my head, especially through the Walkabout. I actually prefer it to the tone of my 5594, although the 2 are totally different tonal beasts and the 94 is a lot more versatile. The silver/black paisley on the charcoal is a crazy whim. I still have white and the original transparent 'guards for that one, but I dig the bohemian vibe the paisley gives it.

It's a 2002 Skyline 5 I got from another TB'er Now I have to sell the Farm and get a 4 string laker ...

Love those in a silver 5502s....the first one I saw was in a Dave Matthews tribute band.....they look so classic and cool.

Sorry you have to sell it....how much does it weigh?

I love the fralin sound.....the Hanson vintage p pickups also sound FANTASTIC!

The silver DJ5 has become as close to a "One" as I have ever experienced. Only time will tell if it is "The One" (I haven't had it for a year yet). It sounds quite different from the orange one, likely because the strings are in (what is, for me) the sweet zone where the sheen is gone, but who knows (or cares). I think if I have an opportunity to swap my 5564 for another light DJ5 + cash I'll do it. The whole package just feels perfect-the smaller body, that NECK, and sound are all scratching the itch like never before for me:bassist:

I'm not Greg, but I know the answer.

The X-14 basses were introduced in 2013 as an "entry-level US" bass. With the only major difference that they do not come with fancy tops or unique colors, but in every way constructed with same materials and and by the same artisans that make the X-94s. Same electronics.

I've used it on several basses and guitars with BEM, RW, ebony and phenolic fretboards for a couple of years with no issues thus far. See tip #2 if the board feels a little too slippery after using it.

Tips:
1. Wear gloves, not because it's toxic. When I sit down to do work on a bass, it's usually more than one thing. Wearing gloves just makes it quicker to move on to the other tasks without having to stop and wash the stuff off my hands. Plus, the oxidation that is on your frets will create a black residue that will get all over your fingers.
2. I use spent dryer sheets to wipe up any excess - they absorb Gorgomyte and also help 'buff' the frets.
3. Cut the Gorgomyte sheets into 2"x2" sections - that's all you really need for one neck. When one side turns completely black, flip it over and use the other side. The dryer sheet(s) will take care of the rest of the black residue.

It also conditions RW and ebony rather nicely.
