Ughh...UPS stated delivery for tomorrow earlier today, then updated to Monday a few minutes ago!
Oooouhhhhh, big bummer! What a tease that is. That’s better than FedEx which goes out of its way to not deliver packages. Been home the last two days, all day, and both days found a note on the door that they tried to deliver something but nobody was home. They didn’t ring the doorbell. My nanny said she saw the guy walking back to his truck empty handed (like he walked to my door without his tablet or my package, opened the door, called out hi, and he kept walking and got in and drove away.
Mind you I’m not waiting on a new bass...

So after my recent scheff acquisition I’ve been really looking at getting a one of the hollow bodies, probably one of the earlier ones with the bartolini pickups. Can anybody give me some idea as to the sound when using it with rounds in a rock context? I understand that isn’t the usual hollowbody use but it’s how I’d be using it. Also how do the barts compare to the chi sonic?
The hollowbody is one Lakland I haven’t owned... actually, it’s probably the only one I haven’t had LOL.
How’s the Scheff working for you? Cause I know mine KILLS in a rock setting, with Pro Steels!
I just pulled the trigger on a USA 44-60 Classic from Lakland that was one of their NAMM basses, for a really great price. Curious if a standard Jazz pickguard will fit? I'd like to switch out the cream that comes with it...

I prefer fedex to UPS myself as fedex allows you to have items delivered to a fedex store, ups used to but changed it for items that require a signature, which my ups guy still leaves on the porch without ringing the bell anyways... the driver is the most important part in your experience, I suppose...
It’s been fantastic. I put nyxls on it and it works great for what I’m doing (pop-punk/alternative). It sounds good with fingers but it slays with a pick. The tone to me is reminiscent of a ric crossed with a 70’s jazz.
The nyxls are great. They’re pretty balanced sounding to my ears. Not too bright (like dr high beams) not too bassy, they’re kind of a Goldilocks string. I do wanna try dr nickel lo riders on the scheff though. Those are my usual favorites.
I’m a steels guy. I haven’t played nickels in almost 30 years. But, strangely enough, I received 2 sets of balanced tension nickel D’Addarios today that I ordered along with a bunch of steel D’Addario sets and singles. I am big into balanced tension sets, and I’m going to try these out. In the past, I ordered fatter DR E and B strings, and sometimes lighter Gs to make more balanced sets. It cost a small fortune. D’Addario has better options with their 43-107 Prosteels and the singles that just strings offers.
I definitely have a good feeling about them, strung it up with some labella flats tonight. So far so good...l
I’ve tried and liked stainless strings but nickel for whatever reason seems to last longer for me. They also seem to keep a little more body in the tone so I can use more aggressive sounding eq settings without losing the meat. It’s a tricky tightrope to walk.
It seems Lakland switched to Laurel fingerboards on nearly all Skylines.. CITES?
