Issue update: New replacement pot purchased directly from Lakland, and installed today. Interestingly the shaft size on the replacement was a bit larger than the original which required some reaming to fit correctly. More interesting it made no improvement whatsoever to the issue. In fact, the original may have been slightly better and not as scratchy. Very little range of control on this one. A fraction of a turn and it practically switches the signal off.



Thoughts welcome.

Just curious did the new pot come with the two resistors and a capacitor soldered to it? The resistors should each have one end soldered to the case. There should be a bus wire from one of the terminals soldered to the case too. And a ground wire from the pot case that daisy chains through grounding all the pot cases.

My Carlo is getting its Markus Orange applied. Although, I think they’ve now changed the color name... not sure though.

Not downright refused.... We just discussed other options.....

And agreed to them....

But maybe you're right....JJs a great guy... And larger than me ( taller...more muscular).... Maybe that played into it...:)

I worship Carl.... maybe that’s why LOL.

But, he’s been super excited about my build idea, pickup choices, and placement.

A dual P is seriously magical. That's why I love my TL6 with the Bill Lawrence P46's I have it wired passive and it's more HiFi than any passive bass I've played.

I recently modified one of my Jazz basses to accept a P or a J in the neck position, and had forgot how different a PJ actually sound next to a Jazz. My DJ5 is still the most Lush sounding bass in the stable, but between the Jazz basses, PJ and Dual P, I've got more than a few tones up my sleeve.

I made a booster pedal for my Strat that actually sounds really good with the bass too, thickens it up a bit, great for passives.

I too have had a TL-6, Texan. I didn’t like the neck, so I didn’t spend much time with it. I haven’t found a jazz bass that gives me the sound I want. But, several PJs have been sounding good to me lately.

The inspiration for the dual P was one of the earliest Stingray prototypes that had a reversed large pole (4 total that were stingray sized) split P in the stingray humbucker spot. I didn’t think that would give me enough versatility. So, I wanted a 2nd split P near the neck, preferably where the Scheff has its neck pickup. If passive doesn’t get it for me, I’ll throw a preamp in it. But, I’m thinking it will be perfect.

Well all, I'm calling off the dogs on this one. I discovered an odd thing tonight. I have two amp setups, both using the same head. One is a GK MB210 combo, a 500W 2x10. The second is a stand alone GK MB500 head paired with a Bergantino CN212 which goes to bigger venues. The test you hear is with the 210 combo, input pad on for the active system, and at a fairly low volume. Tonight with the head/cab I run that with the input pad off. No particular reason, I just prefer it that way. Pretty quickly I noticed that I seemed to have a normal volume control response. Surprised, I tested a bit more and sure enough it's working fine. I'll check tomorrow but it seems the issue is with the input threshold of the amp and NOT the control. Wrong cause and effect I guess! Feeling a bit stoopid but happy there's no real isssue with teh preamp or components. Thanks all.
