I spent a lot of time making my old car shine like a new dime, yesterday. Then I realized that the bass, that I received Friday, matched the interior. Btw, the GZ is not like the import Lakies I experienced 10 or so years ago. Maybe it’s the Plek, maybe the quality department was revamped, I dunno. But, this bass kicks butt and plays like buttah!

I put a new pickup in my US 44-64 today. Shortly after I got the bass last year, I swapped the stock pickup for a Lindy Fralin. The Fralin has been great, but it has some aggressiveness in the upper-mids. I wanted something a little smoother and warmer, so today I swapped the Fralin for an Aguilar AG 4P-60. It sounds fantastic!

Galaxies are nice rides! I gravitate to the 60s long cars, more than any other type. I've had several that never got shiny. Some never made it to driver status. So, I decided to cash out some investments, a few years back, and spend a little more to get a car that looks great and drives reliably.

Back to bass talk... The GZ now has LaBella Gold flats installed. So far, I'm digging them! They're new and will change during break in, but they sound great already. And, the gold color matches the lettering on the EMG pickups.

Hey guys, may I ask a quick question? That wasn't the question

I am thinking if rejoining the LOG The seller of the 494 im looking at is telling me that the neck was a Hugh McFarland shaped neck, I'm not sure if thats the case...the serial number is low 300s, I was under the impression he stopped hand shaping the necks somewhere around 250, no? Owner states he personally went to the factory and picked parta out with Dan Lakin, who stated this to be a McFarland neck.

What do you guys think? Salesmanship?

I'm sure 4-94 #3xx has a wonderful neck, no matter how it was shaped. I have #263 and it's got my favorite neck in over 40 years of playing!

I have #11 that used to belong to Rumblefisher. It is definitely a Hugh neck and different from later Laklands. I also have SN #93. If anyone wants to compare neck dimensions to my 2 first year McFarland 4-94s, I’ll be glad to get my digital calipers out??

Hey all. I've got a 2013 USA Bob Glaub that I picked up here on TB last fall. The previous owner put a Fralin in there, and I believe it was overwound because the upper bass was massive on it and the treble quite dampened. In any case, I dropped a Moollon P pickup in there yesterday and I had a question about Lakland pickup height specs.

According to the tech doc on their site, they recommend setting the pickup height to the open string, as opposed to depressing the last fret. To me, this is insanely close to the strings since the measurement is still 8/64 at the E, which is the same recommendation from Fender BUT, in that case, you depress the last fret.

I understand why the radius of the pickup angle (from string to string) is less, that makes sense because of the flatter fingerboard. Anyone know why Lakland recommends setting the pickups so high? Although the output is a bit lower at Fender spec, the tone seems much more P Bass to me that way. I know its all personal preference, but I am curious if anyone has insight into the Lakland thought process here.

I will have to measure fast... Rumblefisher just talked me out of #93. Bittersweet parting for sure, but she will be going to another early Lakland lover. Ugh... I can’t play them all, and have way too many. That’s what I tell myself when I sell one that I’ll never be able to replace.

Hi LOGers, has anybody had this happen to their ebony dot Lakies? There is an off green/yellowish coloured stain surrounding each of the dots on my 44-51. Has been there for years but i only notice it when i look close in the right light every so often and thought I'd see if anyone else has expierenced this or knows a potential cause.. hard to capture properly:

And a full bass shot for good measure. Serial T27, built in 2014. Finally put some LaBellas on recently. I suspect I'll never take them off. This thing is such a joy
