Lakland Owners Group #69

Aw, no biggie...Just no time to be in a band...and no time to reply play much.
I still have 3 other USA Laklands...and that LE stingray...
Might as well let someone else own this burl bass...It is the cream of the crop..and deserves to be played.
I am going to let it go for a great price...will list it in classifieds after the holiday weekend.

this bums me out, somebody needs to go to Upstate NY and re-arrange Dan's priorities, that, or rescue this poor lost soul of an unplayed bass.

Hey Everyone,

Ive posted a little bit on TB(not alot) and dont think Ive ever posted to LOG. Wanted to say hi, show my two laklands, and also see if anyone is kind enough to share any feedback or wisdom. I have two Lakland Precisions with the J Neck. A 2008 BG in Cherryburst with RW fretboard. And I recently just got a butterscotch 44-64 with maple fretboard. I posted my cherryburst as I am interested in mixing it up. I dont really see the value in having two basses that are fairly identical to me. So I posted the cherryburst for Jazz trades.Im doing this because for some reason the butterscotch just feels and sounds slightly better. Cant quite place it but its just slightly ahead of the cherryburst, even though that one has more bells and whistles(blocks and neck binding, and custom color). So its a playability/sound thing, not cosmetic. I'll upload a few pics and below is link to thread.

So my main question...A fellow TB'er and LOG member suggested I consider a conversion of the Cherryburst to a PJ. I am intrigued by this as I love this bass too, and emailed carl over at Chicago Bass DR to discuss this. I guess some options are replacing the P PUP or adding a J Bridge PUP. If anyone has any experience doing this, lessons learned and recommendations I would be grateful for any feedback, good or bad.

Thanks,

Scott

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I won't be converting after-all. Just completed trade for a FCS '64 Jazz. Sadly the BG is no longer mine and will be missed. But I am very happy with the trade and Im loving the FCS and the different tones I can get now. Between this and the 44-64 Im pretty excited about my options :)

I do believe the long-standing answer to the question "how many Laklands do you need?" Is... "just one more."

So, the Big Brown Truck (BBT) will be delivering a new-to-me 44-51 next week... Woot! I haven't had a NBD in almost three months!!!

Pics and a full report coming soon...
Hey, I sold you the 44-51 on eBay! I didn't know you are a TBer. Bass is getting wrapped up and sent your way!

Been pretty busy for a few months and guess I broke the TB habit! Been checking in lately tho!

Just posted US DD33 in the classifieds since I play the Sea Monster 99.9% of the time. Hope it goes to a LOGger!

Not to deter anyone from this bass, but their are some F.I.N.E.-fine Laklands in the classifieds right now!

For those who don't know, Dan is a cool dude. I've dealt with him several times, always with great success!

Welcome back D!

You could have Marty bell do the refin. Or ask if they'll let him do a large fleck finish.

This is a fender CS I own in seafoam sparkle green. Not sure if that's what you had in mind, but that's fenders take on the color with big fleck!
My son has an endorsement from Risen drums....

Just got my first Lakland today. It's a black Skyline 44-64 with a white pickguard. I didn't even try it with the vintage pickups, I ordered a set of EMG Geezer Butler Signature pickups and installed those. I did a set up on it today the strings came set very high and the neck has a bow in it. So I have been dealing with setting the truss rod. I ordered a silver sparkle pickguard for it from quick guards. Do any of you know a different place to get pickguard for the Laklands? I will post picks after I get the set up straight.

Here is the New bass I changed the pickups to the EMG Geezer Butlers and changed the strings to some Dr. Black beauties lights. Finally got the neck straight and the action set correctly.

Received my 5502 from Lakland today....neck plek. MAN! I could feel the difference when removed it from the case. It's plays like butter now! If you're thinking about getting your bass plek, I highly recommend it! Also, another big shout out to the great service from Lakland!
