Have you talked to Carl Pedigo, the Chicago Bass Doctor? He’s been known to make a few pickups. And, since he’s Lakland’s semi-retired master of all things bass, he may be able to help you.Anyone have a set of hollowbody pickups? My regular request
I had custom ones made a while back and got rid of the originals. I’ve never loved the custom ones and would like to back to stock. But Hanson no longer makes them.

Yeah that was my reasoning for looking at the 55-02 too, versatility while still having a convincing J bass tone, as it sounds like it can get most of the way there. I just get afraid of leaving any tone on the table as the reggae guys I'm about to play with are pretty old school cats haha, but if it thumps that's all that matters!
I was unaware the necks between the DJ and other 5's were standardized these days, granted most the posts I was reading were 5-10+ years old so I'm glad I asked haha.
Will hold out for rosewood, it seems like they're harder to find than the maple fretboards huh? Couple tempting deals on the classified's but they all have maple boards which is why I brought it up

Does anyone know when Bart switched to the Classic Bass and if there are any years the 55-02's were equipped with those? It sounds like the Classic's have that cleaner, deeper and more present low-bass with an increased treble extension that I'm looking for. Part of me thinks I could liven up the OG's with my Trace Elliot V4/Greenboy DuallyT rig though, especially with the tweeter. Decisions decisions.
If anyone knows where to find more sound clips of the differences between the Barts (originals and/or classics) vs the LH3 system beyond YouTube that would also be awesome, but I know it's a longshot. All the clips I've seen posted here on TB have expired

did the Lakland pups fit into the classic/original type series? I thought they were custom voicing for lakland? I used to have both classic and original Bart MM style and they sounded nothing like the MM in my ‘99 55-94Appreciate the detailed response Doug!

The Pure Blues on my DJ5 are awesome. Really like the feel over the High Beams I tried.
Hey Doug, is that true? I haven't seen a recent DJ5, but it used to have one less fret and a 12" radius. The website still has that info. I'd be disappointed if they changed the DJ5 to standardize the necks. I miss having one.

OK...straight from 'da Masta (Carl)....the DJ 4 has a different profile and 21 frets...the 5er has the same neck as all other Lakie 5ers.
Thanks Doug! I believe he's talking about the US basses, right? I can see the US DJ5 in the Lakland website with 22 frets and the same radius as the others.
But the Skyline DJ5 still has the old neck with 21 frets in pics everywhere. Unless that was a recent change and we haven't seen those yet.
that’s really interesting - previously we were talking about there being two eras of Bart pickups on Lakland pickups - but there were actually three!
Went to drop this bass off with Carl Pedigo to have some work done (got in and out before the rain, thankfully)
