I recently acquired a 55-02, which is an awesome bass. The 35" scale with string-thru-body turned out to be a small problem though. I normally use EB regular slinkys (45-130), but they're not long enough to be strung through the body and thus have to be strung through the bridge.

Any suggestions for similar sounding (and feeling) alternatives for my 55-02?

Take my advice... don’t buy strings simply because they are long enough to be strung through the body. There’s no noticeable differences top loaded vs through body, in my opinion and 32 years experience. Instead, use the through body option to keep the full diameter portion of your B and E strings off the tuner post.

I know it’s not as big an issue on Lākland’s 5 strings, with their 3+2 headstock design. But, on 4s (especially those tuned BEAD, CGCF, and/or DADG with .135, .130, and .120 low strings respectively) it matters a lot!

I have a question, and I wanted to throw it out to you guys... I got a Decade off of Reverb (I’d been wanting to try one out for a while...) , and the seller claimed US made, said came with a Joe Osborn neck, no pics of the serial number, so I assume he just means a jazz width neck (yes now I’m realizing I should have asked for more clarification)... I reach out to Lakland, which I’ve gotten misinformation from before about serial numbers, and they told me it was put on a 44 60, but then they said one of the guys at the shop might have used it (there’s my confusion). He suggested it might be a skyline body. I don’t know how to tell the difference. It’s a mahogany body, with Darkstar pickups. The control cavity is totally copper shielded. Is there any other way to confirm a US body? Really just trying to figure the true value.
Also, it’s JO 277, which is dated at the year 2003, right before the first Decades came out (with Darkstar’s).

Sorry, after reading that back I wanted to clarify. I assumed it would come with a Decade stamped serial number, not a Joe Osborn. That’s where my surprise came in.

I think you're good... They never did a Skyline decade in sunburst or without a pickguard.

That looks like a USA control cavity to me, with the brass fittings for the screws and excellent copper foil work… did you take the neck off and see if there’s anything written in the pocket?

Body looks legit US to me. But did it left Lakland factory like this? I don't know. It was for sale here, too, perhaps you can ask previous owner for more details:

Not yet, but after doing some searching last night, I found someone selling the same bass on here

I haven’t, but last night, after searching a bit I found an ad on here for someone selling the same bass, who said that “D18” is stamped in the pocket. So I guess it’s Decade bass 18. I’ll have to open it up and confirm for myself.

I emailed with Leo from Lakland yesterday, and he said the neck showed that it was on a 44 60 that headed to ESP overseas, but then in the next sentence, he said the neck could have easily been used by one of the guys in the shop... a bit of confusion...
And thank you, I found that ad after searching Decades with Darkstar’s last night.
