Haha! I deserve that. I definitely will not be dropping any cash until I sell a handful, which I desperately need to do. I have several builds that should be completed soon (as you know). Those will provide a little $$ but not enough to cover the expenses of all 3 of our daily drivers going in the shop, right as I’m paying off the legalized crime we call taxes.

Sorry about the " daily drivers".... I know all to well about that expense! And yours are expensive to even drive into the dealership!

As for taxes... Don't even get me started! As a small business owner who inherited and sold a family farm this past year I'm getting robbed .... As you say " legally"

Hey Lakland gurus, what is or was the deal with the Lakland Skyline Hollowbody? I am intrigued. When were they made? Why are they no longer made? How do they sound? It looks like most people put flatwounds on them. Are the ChiSonic pickups hum bucking or do they make noise like a single coil pickup? Were these popular or more of a niche product? There is one for sale on Reverb for $1000. Seems like a good price but I have no idea.

Love this bass! I’m all about passive 44-94s. Here’s mine (like I need another excuse to post it haha), technically a 44-PJ I suppose:

I’ve been working with the New Zealand Lākland distributor here promoting them in the North Island, I have a HollowBody Skyline HB30 right here. It’s not marked as being made in Indonesia like the other Skylines, it has nothing anywhere on it I can see about where it started life, it was finished and plekked in Chicago though according to the tag.
As for the pickups, they aren’t hum cancelling, they have some single coil hum when solo’s. But the hum is negligible, much like the single coil hum on my DJ5. Really quiet pickups for singles. Hope that helps.

Interesting question. I wondered about this awhile ago too. I don't think they are made in Indonesia like the rest of the Skyline series but am not sure where they originate from. Someone from Lakland once said that it was a bass that was already available from the foreign factory and they just rebranded it but I don't believe that because the shape mirrors Hanson guitars shapes.

Edited to add that perhaps they meant the pickups and general style was something that the factory already handled.

Thanks for the info, but I was more curious about the original 34" scale hollowbody's designed by Mike Tobias. I think they were made in Korea?

I’ve had 3 hobo’s over the years. In fact, my first Lakland was a cherry hobo. The second one I had was a US, white with Darkstars. I had to sell it when my truck hand grenaded itself and needed an engine rebuild. I recently bought a near-replica bass - only it’s a skyline. I can’t tell a difference.
