I love that unbound fretboard with the blocks.
It is, yes! The original owner had it painted white and had the DS pickups installed!
My pickguard came direct from Lakland today. $50 with shipping. I love it! Here is a before and after.

I also got my pickguard from Lakland. However, mine is shaped a bit differently and has screw holes.
Really awesome. I'm really looking forward to buying it. Could you please comment your first impressions?

That was the shape I wanted and was the shape I was told they make so I was happy. I requested no screw holes. It’s on there with double sided tape.
The thought just crossed my mind about perhaps that larger oval plate might contribute just a bit to some added resonance, maybe? It’s certainly a much bigger footprint on the body than a vintage fender-style bridge. Hmm. Whatever the case, I’m keeping it as-is. It’s so good out of the factory, why mess with it?
Hmm, now you got me thinking of ordering one in tortoise shell as well.
Sorry Thom, but I think that, if you have to have a guard, tort or black would work better with natural. Do it!
I thought about black, but not with the Indian Laurel fretboard. And I have a black one on my natural DJ-4, so I wanted something different. I think the mint gives a bit more contrast. Now tort, that might look stunning. And the tort ones from Lakland are cheaper at $30 plus shipping. So, I'm probably going to be ordering one of those today.

Man! To be able to offer a pickguard for 30 bucks!! But, I know they’ve already invested the big bucks that make cutting one easy for them. For me it’s a weekend project! Paper to poster board-> poster board to MDF template-> fix any template shape issues-> cut the guard-> test fit and hand sand any issue areas…. I’ll not go into the drilling and beveling holes process.

Here is the direction I went. I like the extension on the lower horn of the body. Came from Mike at Quick Gards.
A question from the uninitiated here, are all Lakland necks the same shape and width on their current offerings?
For example, if I get a DJ4 and a 44-02 they will have the same necks in just a different body and electronics package?

I have a DJ-4 and a 44-02. The DJ-4 neck is different than a 44-02. To start, different nut widths. DJ-4 is 1.5” and 44-02 is 1.6” The DJ-4 is a little chunkier but in a good way. Both are very comfortable necks. I also have a 44-64 P/J fretless with a 1.5” nut and that neck is slimmer than both the DJ-4 and the 44-02.
