I have 3 skylines. 44-02 at 8.2 lbs, 44-64 at 8.8 lbs and a DJ-4 at 9.4 lbs. Those aren't heavy at all.

The 44-01 and 44-02 share the same downsized body shape. A skyline P or 44-64 typically runs heavier. My 44-51 is 11 pounds.

Needed some busy hands time after work so did something that was long overdue.

She was filthy and the bridge is getting some nice patina on it (that's fancy for rust.)

The fretboard was not much better...

Under the control plate? Seriously?! (changed the battery while I was in there.)

Gave the fretboard a nice soaking as well. Yes. It's a lot. I got a little overzealous.

A nice new set of Lakland Medium Nickels (because the silks are red to match...

Stretched, tuned and ready to go. Intonation and string height are right where they need to be.

Hey all, I had my DJ-5 modded out and had a luthier put a active bartoloni pre-amp inside with a battery box in back. Wow! This Bass was cool before but now it's a Beast! I left the stock Lākland American pups in it. Volume/stacked bass/treb/balance.

Great job on the cleaning and tune up. That fretboard was thirsty. The hardware looks great.

I really like Audere preamps, they don't color the sound, super adjustable & they come from my neighbor state Oregon.
Had Mike Lull add the battery box to DJ13 way back as I didn't like taking the plate off for battery changes & it was a bit tight in there.
This is a VB-4B Noise Cancelling preamp & sensor for the Aero single coils that came in the bass.
I sent the pickups down to him so he could test and match them with a NC sensor for the best results.
Black Pearl paint by Pat Wilkins, weighs in at a hair over 8 lbs, couldn't be happy with this bass!

Fwiw, my Skyline 44-60 is 10.2 pounds. I’d be happier if it was a pound+ less…nevertheless it’s an amazing bass and bests my last Fender USA Jazz (blonde ash/maple fretboard) considerably.

Had a great time this week putting my Skyline 44-02 D to work in a studio session in rainy Athens, GA, along with my 1960 P-with-flats bass. The music for the most part called for the P, as most music does, but the Skyline with neutral EQ & switch set toward the bridge gave a pretty fantastic punk-rock-friendly edge to two songs that the P would underserve. No complaints from the lead artist or engineer! They even let me run the whole session thru the Trickfish Trilobite board, which made precise level & small EQ adjustments super easy when switching basses.

Lakland has advised me (I am a Dealer) that recent batches have come in lighter. I ordered 3 five string basses, and all were just over nine pounds.

That’s very good news, 2nd! I’d like their P-bass Skyline variant, but would like one that’s lighter than my 44-60….good news!
