Lakland Skyline quality

Too bad they didn't add additional color choices to the Skyline series. Love their stuff though

In the past, Lakland offered more color selections for the Skyline products. The colors that have remained part of the lineup were more consistant sellers. Let's face it, not everyone is dying for that Candy Apple Red DJ5, or that Inca Silver 44-01 (both phased out of production)! Maybe in the future increased demand will aid in the addition of newer colors!

I would be interested in their shielding of the electronics since mine had NONE so I hear you brother.

I would be interested in knowing which model you had. Please be aware that ALL active model Skylines have been shielded in both the pickup cavities as well as the control cavity. Passive models are generally not shielded in order to achieve a tone that is true to more vintage instruments. Believe it or not, shielding does have a slight effect on tone. Be encouraged, shielding of passive instruments is available upon request.

maybe... just maybe... they're going to start putting graphite rods into the necks.

that's my one complaint. i whip my bass about a good deal onstage, and always hated the feeling of the neck wobbling whilst i twirl.
(yeah, a little Winger imagery for you there)

Er, graphite rods ARE installed in the necks!:D Sorry if you were misinformed. The upside is you should now be complaint free!

Will this improvement in quality be reflected in a price increase? :rollno:

As it stands, the price point will not be affected by this change. In lieu of the recent sharp economic down turn I am proud to say that Lakland has not raised the price on the product, nor sacrificed quality. I can also report that no employees have been sacrificed either (no layoffs).

This doesn't mean that Dan and company are making a killing, it means that Dan Lakin really cares, not only about his product, but the people who build it as well. These are just a few reasons why it is a pleasure to work at Lakland. Believe me, as some here can attest, I do not make that comment litely. I'm not a person that normally drinks the company Kool-Aid. I was a customer long before becoming an employee. It was this atttude of sincerity that had me decide to become a Lakland employee. Dan and the rest of the crew are really a great bunch of guys. Uh, don't tellem I said that, they might think I'm goin soft! :smug:

I have one of the first run of Skylines - a 55-01 now with a pair of Nordstrand DC's in it. It's a fine bass. The new and improved aren't calling me at all. I'm completely happy with what I've got - well, OK, the Bart NTMB-L preamp has to go.

Maybe one day I'll get it PLEK'd just to see what all the fuss is about. It plays fine the way it is.

KO

The 01 series comes with the MK1, not the NTMB-L. There's a big difference in tone when comparing the two pre-amps. The 02's have been shipping with the LH-3 preamp for awhile now. The NTMB is available as an option.

BTW, The Nordstrand swap is quite popular these days. I have personally retrofit a few customer basses at the shop with the DC's as well as the Big Splits. Sounds pretty good in my opinion. I am probably one of the few people who actually LOVES the tone of the 01 electronics. Very modern sound. Definitely has it's own voice.

Oil is cheaper than it has been in years, and less than half of what it was 4 months ago.

That has only been for a short time. Three weeks of lower oil prices cannot make up for four years of bloated pricing. The lower prices have yet to be effective in the manufacturing marketplace. The damage has been done. Don't believe me, just ask DHL. They won't be delivering Laklands, or anything else in the United States anymore. That decision came just as the prices started to drop.

I have been using Us Laklands since 2000 (55-94 and 4-94 dlx) excellent basses.
January 2008 I ordered a US BG with J/P trough a dealer in US, for use on a upcoming July august tour Still at end of November its a no show. So I bought a Fender for the time being as the demand was to play a "Fender type bass" for these shows.
Lakeland have not given me any reason for this. I had to pay the dealer $1500 deposit.
How long do you guys think is a reasonable time to wait. ( The dealer promised me delivery by June 2008) Any advice on how I can get out of this deal without being a grumpy customer. I buy a bass cause I have a genuine use for it. The great Lakland customer care has been absent for my part so far.

Ask the dealer for a refund...shoud not be a problem and if it is call Lakland and let them work it out with the dealer. I am almost positive the dealer would take care of it before it went that far though.

Just out of curiosity what did you order?

Peace,

T

Hi thanks for your reply.
I ordered a USA Bob Glaub PJ Trans White/Rosewood/Ash Body, PJ Pickup, Jazz Taper Neck, Tortoise Pick Guard, Case, painted headstock. I did expect a possible delay, but not 6 months.

That doesn't seem like too much of an oddball though the PJ might make it take a little longer because it is a different route and is a bit of custom order. I stick by my original statement, I would definitely get a refund from the dealer if you can't continue to wait. I know if given the chance Dan and Crew will take care of you! Have you talked to Brian or John or anybody directly at Lakland? I am not insinuating anything at all, but I do know of at least one dealer who would get deposits and never place the order...I would confirm with Lakland that they actually have it and get their take on the delay...Good Luck and let us know how it turns out.

Peace,

T
