Here's my invoice from a Fender Bassman Amp I sold on Ebay May of this year for $499.

I originally ordered on Friday, Aug. 12 about 10 PM. I should have ordered a lot sooner but I don't NEED another bass. I just wanted it. Finally I decided, hell I can get it and resell it if I don't want/like it in the end and probably make money. But I forgot to put in the coupon codes (or they wouldn't work?) on Friday.
Called MF on the weekend. Sales had no supervisors in to OK the discount so I had to call back on Monday. I did and talked to a nice young lady who took care of it for me. $1104.15 for the MID. To do that they had to cancel my Friday order and put in a new order so I presume I dropped a few places in the backorder queue but the ship date has not changed. I think it's a guess and it will ship sooner.
However, different from someone else's post they said they DO charge my credit card right away and NOT when it ships. Though, she seemed kind of confused and used the word "Authorize" versus billing. Authorize is what they do when you go to a gas pump and stick your card in. It says "Hey, tie-up $100 of their credit for a pending transaction." Then when you only put in $75 it charges that and the authorization drops away.
If they only authorized my card it's no problem to me. The limit is far higher than I ever use anyway. If they charge me now I can live with it given the savings.

That was me. The rep I talked to was a bit more clear. She said they authorize the card for the amount of the purchase because it is so much but do not actually put the charge through until the item is shipped. Currently my credit card statement does not have a charge for the bass.
I will probably call my credit card company and ask them about the authorize and how long it holds, etc. I'm wondering if periodically (once a month) MF will re-authorize or not.
Reason I'm thinking once a month, is that in the conversation I had with MF is that for something that will be on backorder that long they will get in touch with me once/month to see if I still want it. Apparently they will be contacting me according to the rep and I will say, "Yup, still want it."
If this is true, I'm wondering how many orders will fall out because of folks not 'checking in' once a month. Imagine for a moment a glitch in the system makes it so they don't send that reminder (email?, phone call?) and someone forgets to check in. Order cancelled and much unhappiness for someone. I think I will put a monthly recurring reminder in my calendar and call them myself proactively.
Just got the RIC I ordered on 08/11 today. It is dated Sept. 2010.
Unlike the first one this has no damage to the case and the bass is good except some bridge saddle buzzing on the D and G strings. I have read somewhere that RIC has improved them last year sometime and should warranty these.
There is some small, minor bubbling on the bridge chrome finish.
The replacement case also arrived today. This vintage style case was not damaged in shipping, but does have 4 finish nails driven into the accessory compartment frame inside. The nails are through the outer covering with the heads showing. Is that normal?

Yep, totally normal. All of mine have those nails. You must know what to expect when you purchase a new Rickenbacker. As long as you don't expect perfection (even though at normal prices you do indeed PAY for perfection) then you won't be disappointed. All new Ricks are flawed...and this is not right, but it's up to the individual to accept this or not. If you can't accept it, then don't buy a Rick. Plain and simple.

I tried so hard to explain this in the old thread, but nobody seems to get that Ricks don't really play by the same rules as most basses.
I had ordered a GK Fusion 550 in May of this year and it was supposed to ship a week after I ordered it. It went backordered to later dates threes times. In the 3 months it took me to get it MF sent me like 4 emails, 'Back Order reminders.' The one time I called they asked me if I wanted to cancel my order and order a replacement amp. I finally got it about two weeks ago.

The 2 RICS I bought are only 15 serial numbers apart and both have the buzzing saddle issues. Sounds like a pretty easy fix for me to do with replacement saddles.
At the price paid, I will be a happy camper if I can solve the buzzing saddle problems.
MF's website now says they are expected to ship 12/01/2013. I haven't checked my Account page to see if they've changed my date to 12/01/13 too. Maybe they're trying to discourage us from cutting down their profit so much. I'm not duscouraged. I can wait.

I guess a Ric is like a Ducati, not perfect, but no other bike sound or drive the same. You see even Valentino Rossi didn't understand this point before going to Ducati, well he still have no idea what is going on...
Any way, I've just bought a Ric, a used 4003 from 2007. It is in very good conditions but there some small flaws that I guess were there out of the factory. A bit tail lift, buzzing bolts for adjusting string height. A bit strange comparing to my Geddy which cost about half of a Ric have no issue what so ever. But idid know what I was going into, a slightly "weird" bass to play on (at least when one use to Fenders, Ibanez) but man the Ric tone is really something, and I'm getting used to play the Ric day by day (with the treble pup cover).

To save a long quote. I had a feeling it was just an authorization. My business processes CC's as do most now and if I recall correctly an authorization is good for 30 days so most likely they will have to redo it from time to time.
I'm patient, I can wait and an authorization is no big deal to me.

Ordered mine on Aug 11th, through Music 123 as MF had run out of stock by the time I had made my decision and I found out here that Music 123 would honor the lower price.
Long stroy short, I got a Fireglow for $100.00 above the sale price, they were pretty good.

RIC redesigned the saddles some time ago, but it took awhile to work old stock through production. If you have loose fitting saddles, call RIC customer service and tell them. They will most likely send you replacements. That was the only issue with my new 4003 MID. If you have any issues with your new Rick, call the people who made it in the first place. It's way more effective that just complaining about it here.
Of course, none of the comments would be necessary if RIC took up their QC a notch or five, huh?
Yes, I'm sure that, if you ignore the SIX sold listings I gave you above, that this would be in line with what you are seeing on ebay.
Edited to add: if the seller had a lower reserve price, and bought his instrument at the $1100 that most of us got, he could have made about $300 profit after fees and shipping. Which, in my book, is a "tidy profit."
