Law enforcement confessions

Not a real interesting story, but a proud moment for me nonetheless:

I used to be a lane mechanic at a bowling alley, one of my duties was oiling lanes before league play. There was a team in one league that consisted of five cops. One day I was finishing up on the oiling and nearly everyone in the league was there getting ready for the night. Out of the blue a guy approached me and asked what I think about the police. I knew he was a cop (apparently he didn't know that I knew) so I decided to egg him on. "I hate cops," I said "all they do is ridicule and harass people. They think they're tough but they just hide behind a badge and gun."

"I'm a cop." he replied.

"See, that proves my point. You assumed I would have a negative opinion of cops so you asked me what I thought of them as an attempt to intimidate me. I'm doing nothing wrong but you need to feel like a tough guy."

Of course the other officers were paying attention and had walked towards me. Another officer remarked, "ya know, you're a real *******."

"Yeah, but it's not illegal to be an *******, is it Barney?"

"Yeah.....well it should be."

By now the bowling alley had gotten dead quiet and everyone was listening to our conversation.

Ohh, you'd just love that, wouldn't you?" I said, "Then you could just arrest anyone you want and say: hey, he was an *******."

The cops were silent. I decided to egg them on some more. "By the way, I don't donate to your little social club either."

"Social club?" ( This was in a small town and the police cold call people and ask for donations for the Fraternal Order of Police, which is basically their social club. The cops think nobody knows what it is, yet everyone does.)

"Yeah...The Fraternal Order of Police."

"Oh, that's just a place for us to unwind after work."

"Sounds like a place for you guys to get drunk and then drive home to me."

"We don't get that drunk." The entire bowling alley gasped. The officer then realized about 150 heard him say that, and turned about 5 shades of red.

"Now are we done here, 'cause I have a real job to do?"

"Yeah, we're done."

I gained a lot of respect from many league bowlers that night.

Cool story bro.

What's the deal with cops driving 5-10 miles per hour under the speed limit? Are they just trying to mess with people behind them?

And then there's the cop's flying down the road and they hit their lights when they go through a red light...now I know what that's all about. ;)
1. I have used my lights and siren when I had to poop really bad.

I'm guessing its easier to spot suspicious activity at 50mph than 55mph and probably to provide a safer scenario if the need arises to suddenly turn around or stop.

I think the main problem in law enforcement is the personality type the job can draw. The " problem" officers are 1of 2 types. The overbuff over testosteroned meatheads, and the guy who got his butt kicked all through high school and sees the job as the way to get power and play "catch up". MOST officers hate these types more than powderfinger does.

Seems about right.

Except for the MOST officers... part that is. In my experience, I'm afraid you might have your statistics reversed.

Is it possible for a man to charm a female officer out of a ticket? You hear about women doing it all the time (altho it didn't work on you) but has a man ever successfully flirted/charmed/shown his junk to get out of a ticket to a female officer? I can't see it working, but maybe you've heard different?
Yes. On 2 occasions. Got her official business card on the one.....who later ended up wife #2(r.i.p.) Truth.

Well, I really liked this story. The guy admitted to driving drunk as a police officer.
Started off as a light hearted joke and the other guy escalated it. That's the impression I got at least.

You guys did read the part at the beginning Agent's story were the officer at the alley started the interaction by asking a disingenuous question, either to fluff his own ego or to (figuratively) pick a fight, right? Regardless of the profession, it's pretty much a douche move so I think it's a pretty funny story.

+1

I used to live in an apartment building with this very attractive sister who was a LEO. I'd usually see her in the morning when she was coming home from her shift and I was headed to work.

I never made a move though. :hmm:
Dude, you so should have. From what I saw and heard while married to her, the LEO women are fairly crazy in their personal lives. Like they have a little more testosterone going or something, they're just downright horny.

I like when people talk about hating cops because then I don't have to waste any more time with them... I immediately know they are an a**hole.

"Oh bro, that cop was hassling me just because I was going 95 in a 60! What a PIG!!!" People who talk crap about cops are almost always delinquent losers, IME... This coming from someone who has been arrested, paid thousands in fines, etc. and still supports the police.

Also, thanks for sharing all the cool stories, OP. I love hearing about the dudes behind the badge.

Most police are great guys who keep everyone around them safe. It's just there is never any media coverage for being an outstanding cop.
Instead, everything cycles around what this bad one did and so and so.

It's just the crooked cops that give the rest a bad rap.

You won't find a more respectful and cooperative person than myself when I encounter a police officer. Why? I'm not stupid. The police ALWAYS have the upper hand. I learned that at very young age living in Podunk Alabama. They will **** you over in a heartbeat. Always have and always will. Its the nature of the beast. The profession attracts bullies and miscreants like flies to ****. I ALWAYS assume the worst and ALWAYS put forth my best behavior. It is my firm belief that this strategy has circumvented many a beatdown in my 56 years.
Yes they have more militaristic tools at their disposal these days and that is worrisome. But we also hear about this stuff more as well due to technology. I dunno if its really gotten any worse, because in my experience police abuse of somebody, somewhere has always been there.
Quotas? Of course they have them. Why would they not? Does anyone really think numbers would not be in a policeman's performance standards when numbers are the game in every other profession from sales to IT?
Preventing crime? Not much, maybe on occasion by sheer coincidence. In my adult life my residence has been robbed on 3 different occasions. All duly reported to the authorities. Did they ever get my stuff back much less arrest anybody for the crime? Of course not. I did did get a boat motor back MYSELF when I saw it at the local pawn shop. If they ever followed up and arrested the guy who pawned it I never heard from them. I followed up with the pawn shop guy and he just shrugged and said he reported it. Maybe he lied but I doubt it.
I realize that once in a while they arrest a real criminal and bring him to justice, but detereance? I don't think so.
Its a necessasary evil, police. They serve a purpose but they also arn't really looking out for your best interests or give a **** about you.
Be smart, say yes sir officer, and save the constitutional arguments for later if you feel thats called for.
