LDS Sealed 15/8

Im not sure exactly which one - He mentioned it was rated at 125W, however I couldnt locate an 8" on the celestion website rated for that amount so I couldnt be certain which model. Having said that I know very little about Celestion speakers as I always thought of them as more of a guitar speaker but they have a good range for bass and Pro audio it seems.

I think I will include the same option to run the woofer at full range whichever way I go. Hmmm decisions decisions :hyper:

If someone is looking to get this sound but way louder, by all means, find a used nv215. This cab is really a half size nv215 that is probably alittle more aggressive in the upper mids and alittle extra top. If I was running fully crossed over, I would use the same drivers but cross up higher, like around 1.5kz or so. That would give the woofer most of the grit and less stress on the mid. An 8" mid takes up alot of space only to cover that amount of frequencies but as I said, this is a "going after a tone" kind of project. If I could have found a 5 or 6" mid that sounded the same with enough sensativity, I would have done that.

Not sure if your reply included my question...

Still looking to build something for my Fender Dual Showman. Not for gigging but for rehearsal, studio etc. So max spl isnt my issue, but sound/tone is...
Since JBL K140's are really difficult to come by, at least over here, I'm looking for a current production speaker for full range operation.

While the D15LFA has a lower EBP (75) the CB158's EBP (95) should be still acceptable, at least according to the Eminence data sheet.

Question in my mind is how the top end / cone break-up sounds like on the CB158 vs the Delta15LFA.

Congrats on your cab, really like the idea !

I have never heard the cb15, I just know that the delta lf had slightly better sealed specs and Don liked the tone. My cab would rock with the fender type amps. Again, the guitar cab sound with more bass friendly abilities. The only slight drawback is the slightly low sensativity. It's not bad but, a low powered head needs all the help it can get. Thats why guys can gig an old V4 head......but it's probably on top of an 8x10, not a 2x10. That reminds me, my brother has a vintage v4. He lives about 1.5 hours away and I have monday off. It may be time for a brotherly GTG.

The more I look into the 4015 as a sealed sub, the more I like it. Great sealed specs, great xmax and it is 1db more sensitive in the lows so it would be that much more powerful than the top cab. Also, since the frequency response drops off after 1khz, you wouldn't be missing much by putting a 800hz lowpass in the cab. Then there wouldn't be any issue with impedance. If I was going to add a second cab, I'd build that one. My second choice would be another identical cab. My cab with that kind of sub would probably get close to the "bigness" sound of an actuall 8x10 and sound better.

If using the 4015 by it'self, I'd cross to the mid at 1khz to get any available growl. And then add a second one! :smug: JGR, I think thats your cab.

Could someone with software run the 4015 in a 1.4sqft enclosure and tell me how or show a graph to compare the differences? Then do the 4015 in a 1.7sqft? I think this thread really speaks to alot of players and the info could be helpful.

I've been looking at various combinations with the 4015 for a while now. If I ever get around to building something, it's going to be a big sealed cab with two 4015's plus whatever I decide to cross over to, which will be determined by the breakup characteristics/power handling I'm looking for. It will be big and heavy, unwieldy (and expensive), but I should be able to abuse it without worry. :) Glad you are diggin this one. I like the NV215, but I feel like I can overpower it pretty easily, and the CBMR variant used isn't my fav, so I think there is still the potential to kick the NV215 up a notch. That said, it's still a great cab.

JGR, I like your thinking. Get a sound in mind and do what it takes to get there without compromise. Usually compromise gets you close but, not exactly what you wanted. I don't care for the eminence mids either, for bass.

Does it do as well as the 4015?

I don't have the 4015 in my winisd driver files. But based on the relative Q's and other specs I would expect the Definimax to behave very very similarly but not be as loud.

The Definimax and the 3015LF both have much lower VAS than the 15LFA which I presume is behind the huge upper bass bump the 15LFA gets while in a small sealed box.

I would expect the 4015 to be closer to flat on the bottom like the 3015LF is.

I never considered the 3015LF for a sealed cab based on the Eminence notes. It would be interesting to see how you think they stack up if you have the time to put the 4015 into WinISD and run a comparison.

So what size sealed box would the 3015LF need? And how big for a box tuned to say 32HZ?
I love my mac, but it won't run winisd.

The 3015LF is fine in Greenboy's design with a very low tuning. He offers an extended shelf option that lowers the tuning a lot. 32hz would be doable.

In a sealed box it seems to want around 2.5 cubic feet, but it will do fine in as small as 1.7 or so.

In 1.7cf, it compares to the Delta 15LFA as about 2db down (Relatively) across the board from 80 to 200hz, but much smoother. The 15LFA has a bit 3db peak centered around 120hz, that the 3015LF does not have, basically, that makes the difference.

The 4cf 3015LF tuned to 32hz looks much better all around though.

Will do if I get a chance. The parameters are very very similar though, to the 3015LF. Everything is within 10% just about. I would expect them to be veeeery similar.

So what you are saying is that the 3015lf and 15lfa are relatively similar in a sealed enclosure, except that there is about a $200 dollar price difference. Also, they don't sound the same. I've used/owned several of the neo 3015lf's and they don't sound great for a project like this. Not great in the mids, alittle growl but an annoying one and it just sounds stiff. It's a subwoofer. My design is not about subs, it's mids, punch, and growl. As a sealed sub, it sounds like the 15lfa is the better driver for the money and the 4015lf wipes the floor with both except for sensitivity. Am I wrong?

Noooo not at all. The 3015LF and 15LFA are night and day difference. the 15LFA has a big upper bass bump that will sound way different, and the rolloff of the bass is much more abrupt after the bump.

The 4015LF and 3015LF should be very similar. Not sure though until I model it. Someone else has the driver file, I am sure of it :)

The 4015LF is a lot better than the 3015LF (from a curve standpoint), sorry for the wrong info!

-3db @ 61hz or so in 2.5cf, vs. -3db at around 80hz.

FSC 69.12hz vs 79.05hz.

* not really sure it's worth the 20lb weight difference though, given that the 3015LF is 3db or so more sensitive, making up the entirety of the advantage in transfer function.
