LDS Sealed 15/8

The svt doesn't have an 8 ohm tap but, Im just using it at low volume at home. I do have a bergantino ht210 cab to run in parallel with the tweet turned off that works fine though.

There are not many 15" 4 ohm drivers and Im not sure if any are good for sealed use. You should look it up on the eminence page. I have no complaints or regrets with this cab, just know that you won't be leveling a building with the low end. But, nobody should expect to unless using a fearful cab and then, it would sound like you want.

Don might have access to a 4ohm delta 15lfa - the spec sheet does say "enquire about alternative impedences". Otherwise I think it would most likely be the Legend CA154. It has a pretty similar freq plot (i.e stable up till about 1.5k) and overall useable freq range to the Delta 15lfa so would probably sound pretty good at full range. Thing is it only handles 300W. The other option might be the Basslite 2515 but that has a pretty big hump at about 800 and has a much narrower useable freq range (52-2.5) so this would be less likely but both do 4 ohm and work in sealed enclosures. Im just waiting on Don to get back to me and I will post the answer.

I have asked about the celestion as an alternative as well to see whether it does get ganky in the upper mids. Hopefully not. One thing though is it apparently handles 125W:bassist:

Looks like the LEGEND CA154 is the only one that will really work and is 4 ohms. Very similar tonal profile to the 15lfa as well. Pretty good looking woofer. I could actually put that into my existing cab. I may try one someday so as to make it 4ohms for my svt. Although, 800hz and up would be 2ohms until the really high frequencies. I still don't think that would hurt anything at those frequencies.

That would be safer for your SVT than running a higher impedance on it. BTW, I like your aluminum reducer ring......handy.

@ Fab Savage--don't worry about the Legends 300 watts, it's plenty, and is a good choice for a 4ohm version.

Yeah I thought it looked pretty close too. If it is going to be the Legend, Ill let you know and record some clips compared to the NV412

Cool thanks Will. Yeah 300 should be OK. The Marshall will put out 400 but my understanding is that a speaker will tend to 'fart out' closer to half of its RMS and so Im thinking about 150-200W might be all Id want to give it. Especially with a 5 er:p

+1

It'll complain before it up and dies. Your amp isn't putting out all that power unless it's cranked up. Also the music signal from the bass isn't a constant, even amount of power. There's a power spike for the first few milliseconds at the attack of the note, then much less power as the note rings out. Most of us aren't really using as much power as we think we are....at least not all the time.

I wish that I had an easy, good sounding way to record clips. I have a boss br recorder that I could try some time but, you are still relying on the internal mic or........I do have a joe meek 6q preamp that I could use to record into the br for a better sound. I could use my beta 58 or beta 87. I need to just step up and get a new phone with good recording capabilities.

My phone is only a few months old. Recordings are still weak in the bass. At least enough to not appreciate lowend details/differences in bass cabs. Best/cheapest way might likely still be a condenser, like one of your drum overheads, place a couple feet or so from the cab.

If you can keep them in phase, your 2 beta's, one on each speaker might work better. Between mic positions/boundries, etc., it's hard sometimes to get an accurate reproduction of the lows. Don't know how good of a recording you want to end up with here. For demo's/live sound, sticking a mic on it works fine but if you're trying to demonstrate the tone of the cab, hear differences in design details, etc., it might not be close enough to the real sound.

I think for comparative purposes the 57 or 87 would be fine. Id probably just use one and back it off a bit from a mid point between the 2 drivers. A dynamic mic would be best unless you are in a really good room.

As a reference you could also record a DI signal to A/B. That way you would get a sense of the character that the cab is adding

Good idea. Something like a Countryman 85 or other speaker level DI would catch everything upstream from the speaker, you'd then hear what the speaker is adding.......along with mic profiles, room treatments, boundries, etc.:smug:

Sorry to steal this thread away but what do you guys think of this as a 4 ohm alternative

Faital Pro 15PR400 Speakers - Faital Pro 15PR400 bass guitar and PA speaker that has a lightweight neodymium magnet - Faital Pro 15PR400 800 watt high efficiency of 100dB SPL woofer for all mid-bass and bass applications. Faital Pro 15PR400 sp

I think it would either be that or the Legend CA154, there isnt a whole lot of 15" 4ohm drivers around especially ones that would work in a sealed box

thanks

Mike

For guys looking for a high powered 4 ohm alternative to my cab, here is the super deluxe and heavier model I would like to see. A 15/10/6 cab using a sealed 4015lf, sealed Beta 10a, and a jensen mod6-15. Both woofers wood be run full range for a 4 ohm load and the mod6 would be high passed at 2khz to add some top end life to the beta. Cab would probably be 60lbs, 28"H, 17.5"W, 15"D. What a monster single cab solution that has the sealed punch and growl in a 4 ohm cab. I need to stop this.......

I bet it sounds good, if done properly.

I ve been thinking I might throw 2 of those delta 15s in a box together with a low power mid driver for a 4 ohm slammer.

15/10/6 sounds good, have you run any simulation on this setup by chance Kringle?

PS stop conceptualizing cabinets, you have already cost me a 15/8 :D

That would be a good cab if you skip the beta and cross the guitar driver around between 800-1khz. For 4 ohm loading add second definimax :)

The internal volume of the woofer chamber in my cab is 1.63 sqft. Byt the looks of it, I could put a 4015lf in the same chamber size with good results. The sealed 4015 suggested volume is 1.72. The 4 ohm bass driver works well in a similar chamber size too. I may build myself an add on cab in the future. A very simple cab to build. I'd add a brace across the back and top of the cab for stiffness although, a c cab that small made from good 3/4" plywood would be pretty stiff to start with. I'd be using wood glue and 1.5" brad nails to put the cab together. Maybe shorter brads for the baffle since it would be very tight spacing.

For anyone who is interested, I just placed an order for an eminence 4015lf woofer and a beyma 8M100 mid driver. I'll be loading them in my 158 cab and fully crossing them over. This is for an experiment to see if a large 2x15/8 could be a replacement for my modded nv610. I just had to know how the 4015lf monster would perform Im always trying out different mids. :)
