LDS Sealed 15/8

I got an e-mail today from US speaker saying that they had no more 8m100 drivers in stock so i decided to go with the Faital pro 6PR150 instead. I may be happier with it anyway since it has a dip around 2khz which will make it smoother sounding for bass. I think that one of these paired with two 4015lf's would give you a cab with fairly flat response and no need to use an attenuator. Any thoughts from the better educated guys?

I believe Alex at BF is also using that exact driver. Too bad it doesn't reach a bit higher though for this application.
Bummer about that 8 ...

The 6pr150 arrives tomorow and I have already made one of my aluminum baffle plates to mount the 6.5" into the 8" opening. The 4015lf arrives thursday but, I have to work very late and won't get to check it out until friday. I have a good feeling about this combo and hopefully Im not wrong.

JGR, someone already beat us to our next cab. Dual 4015lf's and dual 6.5". What a monster. If I only need one mid, I'll build it all vertical, like a snowman. If I needed two mids, this is how I would do it. Pretty much the same dimensions as a berg nv cab.

I think some guy in mexico or spain. Yeah, thats got to be in the 130 to 140lb range. Talk about volume that can crack the pavement though! If a single pr150 mid could keep up with two 15's, I would think that an 18" wide 38" tall cab would be lighter and easier to handle if you had to carry it up some steps. Otherwise, there is no other way to do it other than to build a better nv type cab.

I did some math and this cab is probably a bit bigger than it has to be but, since it is sealed it's probably not too much of an issue and probably improved the low end just alittle. A vertical 15156 could be 18"wide, 38"tall and 16"deep. Each driver would have it's own sealed chamber which in turn would result in good bracing and stiff construction. The upper mid chamber would have to enclosed more of course. Probably would weigh in at around 100lbs to 110lbs.

Damn that´s some cab!! Those definimaxes look great too!
I think one 18 sound mid (the one seen in fearful), would be able to cope with two 4015 lf´s but crossed at 900 hz- 1.5 khz, no lower.

I never liked those 18sound mids. Kind of harsh. And then the fearful low end was too big.....actually the fearful cabs are great but they are to wide sounding for me and I just couldn't eq in what I wanted. With a sealed woofer and softer sounding mid, I don't have to do much and the sound is just there. Just preference.

Tried it with the shelf extension or the port half-plugged? I got a really sweet SVT sound out of mine with the old SVT and the port half plugged.

I've often wondered if folks who think the 18sound sounds harsh have heard it in the right setting--properly stuffed container and the right crossover topology, etc. GB recently released an update to the crossover indicating you should wire in phase, which should make it smoother in the xover region IIRC.

What I've seen of many of the LDS cabs with the 18sound is that Don rarely stuffs the midrange driver box, just lining it, which is not sufficient to damp it down. Every time I've heard an 18sound as icepicky has been with a different xover or an improperly damped midrange driver box, etc.

* That said, I've heard GB might at some point release an xover for the fEarfuls using the 6PR150. Might keep your eyes peeled for that.

Think of it this way, two definimaxes would be MUCH louder through the midrange, at and below xover frequency than single fearful 15/6 so you wouldn´t find that single 18 sound mid driver ´overhelming´ or ´too present´.
