What is your image trying to convey? Your visual looks much like a vice grip, anvil, or anchor of some kind. I don't get it. Sorry.

What is your image trying to convey? Your visual looks much like a vice grip, anvil, or anchor of some kind. I don't get it. Sorry.
It's clearly an anvil which fits their name. What's to get?
I agree with the guitarist that white shirts are going to be a tough sale. I wouldn’t buy one. White on Black is the safe bet and if you’re investing money into making shirts that you want to sell, you want to maximize your sales even if it means another hour inverting the color of the design.
I like it--it's cool enough that I might buy one even if though it's a white shirt. But if there were any other color combination I'd probably prefer that.
Looking at the image, shown here as a white box with the logo inside, I think it also looks good in a white frame, ie boxed. If you printed the negative space as white on a black shirt, it might look pretty awesome, but making the border look cool would require some thought. ie, making it look like torn papyrus or making the frame interesting is tricky.

Black on a lighter grey would look good. If you want a black shirt then maybe put the Anvil and EdenForge in a White Circle (oval) or have the Anvil in a white circle (oval) with EdenForge printed vertical through the left side of the circle and changing from white lettering to black as it goes through the circle (oval). Don't print on a white shirt
Not to take the side of the guitar player (as tact is always the best option). I am a person that does not see images in my mind well at all. Unless I have seen a rendering I cannot imagine what the final outcome will be. This could be some of the case about withholding input until the final drawing had been submitted.
Looks ok to me. Seems like your guitarist is kinda of a dick, looks down on you because you're a bassist, and is jealous he couldn't do a better job himself.
Next time don't show it to the guitarist. Work with the rest of the band on it and forget that guy.
Yo. That's dope. I was hoping it wouldn't be one of those awful text designs. As a metalhead that doesn't like to wear brash metal shirts, I'd see myself picking one up, in white, if I liked your music.
I kinda get the whole black Tshirt thing but the attitude, that would press right down on my passive aggressive button and I would probably torch the entire project at that point (or maybe just vanity print one for myself) and they could all kiss my backside.

Get the shirts, sell them and keep the profits for your next bass purchase. If you have fans, they will buy them.
I would just be happy that my metal band has a readable band name under the logo

On the logo, I think it works pretty well given the name on the band and I think that visually it will look best in black on white or marl grey. BUT having merched on a few tours for a prog metal band I can tell you that you'll sell a shed load more black t-shirts with a white logo on. You just will. That's the crowd. So if I was buying shirts for the band to have in stock at gigs I'd probably choose to order in the proportion of 100 black w white logo (various sizes), 20-30 grey marl w black logo (various sizes), and choose to wear the grey ones for my own use.
If you've got Photoshop or similar it shouldn't be more than a few minutes to invert the colours on the design and, depending on the T-shirt company they may just want a black and white mask anyway so will use the same black on transparent PNG/PDF image and use it whether they're printing black ink on grey/white cloth or white ink on black cloth. So it may not be any more design work for you...

I like your design, it could work on brown, grey, olive green, miltary green, or as a silver/light grey logy on black or navy/gun metal blue.
If it makes you feel any better, I put hours and hours of Photoshop into at least 10 different version of an album cover, that the whole band agreed on as an idea, then noone got back to me in the end, and now I have the feeling noone liked the idea too much too begin with. It happens. Not getting appreciated for your hard work is a given in this business, because it is "just entertainment". Better get used to it. Take a deep sigh, be the better man and find a fresh approach.

Without reading all of the other replies, I'll say that yeah, he sounds like he's being a bit of a jerk, but you also did not handle it very maturely. Anytime I hear someone try to justify their bad behavior with having a bad day or hear them saying "I just don't need this right now" I think less of them.
I also think that a medium to dark gray ink on a black shirt would be subtle and cool. One of my favorite shirts is black silkscreen on a black shirt but with little white flecks in the shirt. You really only see where the flecks are covered. Sometimes subtle is cool. Sometimes you want the obvious sledgehammer.
