Lead guitar does not like my tee shirt design.

Your guitarist has a problem. You are allowing him to make it your problem. Stop doing that and let him work his own issues out for himself.

He doesn't have to like you or your design to be in the same band with you. If you are seeking approval and praise for your work then you also have a problem you need to work out.

Your logo is actually decent, but i agree that white t shirts are a bad idea.

Generally true, but I've found it to be closer to the better they think they are, the bigger the @$$hole they are.

I'm sure David Gilmour is a pleasant guy to be around and he is an amazing lead guitarist. However the hacky local hero guitarist, playing to the same 20 loyal every Friday, playing the same solo over every song at the same volume, is probably the @$$hole. You need to have some sort of wild ego to want to be a lead musician rather than a 'support the band' musician, but it isn't always square in line with talent. Lead guitarists are born lead guitarists.

I dig the design. The only thing I might do is deepen the cutouts on the "F" side of the logo. I had to look at it for a sec to understand that it was a backwards E and an F. But that's just being nit picky. The concept is great for that band name.

But I like the design.

Yeah, I can see where a white T-shirt for a Metal band wouldn't fly. Maybe grey on black? That would look like the actual metal of the anvil. Just spitballing here.

Either way, good luck working it all out.

I think your logo looks pretty good. I have to say though unlike most post here, my band has had very positive feedback from white T-shirts. That said it could be that it has to do with our logo and the fact that we do not play metal but alternativ-ish hard rock. From my experience white t-shirts are more popular among women. We were also a bit sceptical about them in the beginning so we did a 70/30 print of white and black tshirts last year and even sold the white ones for more since we marketed them as a limited run. The white ones were sold out within a 10 gigs. We are on gig 40 and we still have black ones around.

That said, I agree that communication and mature confrontation is key otherwise your dislikement for each other will continue to build up until one of you explodes. I have seen that happen, it is never a pretty sight.

It is a cool logo, and I like the crisp simplicity of it... but... I don't necessarily associate it with a band. It looks like the logo of one of those massive garden center behemoths we have here in the UK. You can go hold an owl, buy a year's supply of scented candles, a rude garden ornament, a gazebo for the back yard and then pay too much for a slice of cake and an overly milky coffee made by a surly teenager.... Or maybe an honest-to-goodness forge where buff guys make ironmongery for middle aged women? I dunno.

It doesn't help that there is a River Eden here in Scotland that runs through fairly affluent areas where such garden centers would be abundant.

The way it looks on my computer is great, but the background looks grey to me. If you decide to print them in anything but white, post them here. I'd buy one.




Lead guitar is probably an ass, but white T-Shirts end up as rags quick. Nobody wants to walk around with pit stains.

I've worked as an electrical engineer for over 40 years. Many times I have been asked to write a report or a position paper or something like that. Every time the experience has been just as you describe. So, many years ago I realized that this is just how an assignment like this will be. You do your best job, other team members will give you token input along the way, or not, and then at the very end, just before the thing is published, people will want to tear it apart and put it back together. Generally this will happen multiple times in a very short period. It just goes with the territory so don't take it personally and now next time you know what to expect. I mean you think the hardest part will be the writing or the graphic design or whatever technical tasks apply to the task at hand. But no, the hardest part is dealing with your team members.

Your guitarist may or may not be a hopeless diva. This one incident is insufficient to establish that for certain.

Honestly, you're being too sensitive. If dude waited that long to say something about the design, AFTER he ALREADY STATED that he was cool with it, F him. You should've just told him, "well it's too late now. If you don't like it, tough shizzz. You had plenty of time to voice your opinion and input earlier". Def sounds like a D bag.

I'm not trying to be a jerk either. But I say this out of experience. I've been exactly where you are before. Band BS on a bad day. Well, most times anyway, the band doesn't care if you've had a bad day. Not the guys in the band, but the band. The band and music and what a band is stops for no one. The guys in my band are all pretty awesome and laid back for the most part. Sure egos flare every now and then but overall, they are pretty awesome. We've all had issues and arguments with one another over the 5 years we've been together and will most likely have more in the future. I've had times where I "left conversations" via Messenger and once even flipped my poopie and stomped out of the room. But at the end of the day, I felt like an a$$ for doing so and I learned from it. Apologized and moved on. Same with the other guys. If we've ever had a blowout it was because someone was having a bad day and wasn't agreeing with what someone else was doing of saying. But a day or two goes by, we talk about it and hug it out and move on.

You put the work in @njones89, the rest of the band supported it. Overall. And they all had more than enough time to speak their minds about said design. If the lead guitar is going to pull that crap at the 11th hour, tell him it's too late. If he don't like it, then to figure it out himself. You have to weight how important the band and the music you guys are creating together is worth it. Are the relationships with these guys worth it? If you say yes and or very important to both those questions, stick it out. Man up and move on WITH them. If you are questioning these things, maybe you should move on yourself.

The only opinion that matters on the logo is the opinion of your FANS--since, I presume, you would like them to purchase and/or wear your t-shirt (FWIW, I think the logo looks very cool and I like the counter-intuitive black-on-white design, as it probably distinguishes your band from the competition). Maybe at your next gig you could run a little test with the audience: show them a black-on-white rendition and a white-on-black and see which one folks prefer.

As to your LS, saying "it's good" one night and "it sucks" the next is not cool. If this is how he treats you on relatively minor issues, how's he going to treat you on big issues?

You sent messages to the BL and then didn’t answer when he called because you didn’t want to talk? Sorry that seems childish to me, shouldn’t have sent the messages in the first place then.

Regarding the logo, I wouldn’t say reversed colors would “blow”, but it probably wouldn’t look as good as what you designed on a white bg.

Correct me if I’m wrong but the LG originally sait it was cool but then changed his tone when he saw the colors flipped? Not a ridiculous thing to do, but maybe he went about it the wrong way.

Can you give everything on your current logo a white outline?

Unfortunately, this kind of stuff happens all the time. The guitarist lost his say when he didn't respond through out the process. I would say at this point it is too late to change the design but next time he should get involved in the process from the beginning. Buy a small enough qty that you sell out.
