True excellence comes not from individuals deviating from the norms but through the well-worn truisms and collective genius of the faceless masses repeating (and thereby refining) the most well worn "cliche's" which are anything but. Genius is part of the collective unconciousness of the masses and never from individualists. That's why Nickleback is a truly great band. They're a band for the masses.

It's interesting, watching this thread, and seeing how many grown adults can't seem to wrap their minds around the idea that somebody might not like the same things they do and that it isn't an indictment against the ability of the artist or an attack on their taste in music.
I also don't understand people who think that greatness/genius/ability/good are always synonymous with different/unconventional/etc. Is it possible that something is cliche and formulaic because it's good and people enjoy it over and over?
