Nothing looks cooler than a $3000 bass with a $5 snark hanging off the headstock...
(sarcasm implied)
Yeah, it kinda makes you think that instrument isn't worth having if it goes out of tune that easily.
I returned a nice guitar, because it would go flat every night in a 2-degree temperature-shift, I just don't keep things like that.

Fishman came up with a clever solution to that with their FT2; It's about half the overall size of a Snark, and can stay comfortably in place on the headstock, but only powers on if you flip the display outward to be viewed. Easy to do when reaching up to the tuners anyway.
That's a nice feature of course but I've never had a clip on tuner that was constantly on. The old Snarks that I had used an on-off switch and the newer, less obrusive tuners I've had more recently always had a button you had to press to turn them on or off. So if you wore out a battery because you left it on all the time, that was your fault, not the tuners. I did replace the battery when it died on my first Snark after about 3-years though, so that open/close switch would certainly be convenient.

It was once fashionable to have a burning cigarette jammed under the strings on a headstock. Now clip-on tuners are "the thing".
Dang...I must be old, I remember that. It was very common and the brown marks near the nut on the headstock from leaving a burning cigarette in there too long were also very common.

I also remember loaning out my '66 Bassman amp in about '67 or '68 to a good friend and respected bassist who promised to bring it back without a scratch. And of course, after his gig it came back with a burn spot melted into one of the handles of the cab. He bought me a new handle and a few minutes later all was right with the world again.

D’Addario NS micro... barely seen

Exactly. I've played hundreds of gigs with one of those hanging off the back of the headstock when I'm not using a pedal board. Nobody notices or cares.

Clip on tuner? I thought those were for acoustic guitars?

Decent acoustics have tuners built into the preamps nowdays.

I am a orchestra teacher, and I just find the clip on tuners to be inaccurate. I am picky about being accurate when tuning and there are some affordable pedal options that work better for me.

I may be wrong, but I believe the TC Polytune clip-on has +/- .02 cents accuracy; this is the same as the Turbo Tuner from Sonic Research. Not sure if it's been independently verified though. I can believe that some of the cheaper clip-on tuners are less accurate.

I have tried that one, and to my eyes and ears it seems like the turbo tuner is a fair bit more accurate in real usage, but YMMV, I’m sure.
