Some friends from France were thrilled to get a tour of the Slavepit in 2014 when they were here for my daughter's wedding. They're huge fans. This was a month after Dave Brockie died. MB was at the wedding.

Actually there's was a plan to build a more Entwhistle style Explorer backup and a jumbo bodied acoustic, both with the same basic neck design; 36" scale fretless, same profile etc. The acoustic got built and still exists in the hands of another bass player in Austin. My buddy Mark Williams originally paid to have it finished because I was broke, but he sold it some time back. The Explorer never got built. Hmmm... I wonder if Steve would be interested all these years later. I may hafta pursue that.

I'm the meantime I have set out on my own journey to approximate a similar smaller version with Warmoth parts as I am not a gifted luthier but a damn good mechanic. I am using an Iceman body shape, mahogany with a quilted maple top.

This first one I'm just using a stock neck. It's an experiment to just have a smaller electric that I can actually walk around with a bit easier. I don't know about y'all, but when I'm at home(and often at work as I'm often just sitting around on a set) a bass is always in my hands. Been that way since I was about 12. Took a lifetime to find a woman that would put up with that; a perpetual bass solo throughout nearly every conversation, dinner , football games, etc. Hahahaha.

Well...it's different. We were both kinda just doing this for fun. I wrote about 100 songs and just had to put em somewhere. We also would just bust out versions of songs we liked for whatever reason. Sometimes we'd have "stump the band" night and people would just yell song titles at us and we'd fake it. If we couldn't play it we had to buy beer. But I can fake my way through any song. We were mainly just having fun and heckling each other. Definitely not as polished or thought out as Agony Columm. We made this recording of about 15 songs rather hurriedly and there's some things I'd do differently but here is that duo...

I'm a pretty big guy. 6ft. And I have silly big hands, part of why I'm comfortable wt 36" scale. This bass fits me, always has. Was built to. Not saying it ain't ridiculous, but on me it looks...right. But anytime I've seen anyone else try to wear or play it it really amplifies just how ridiculous it is. It looks plain silly on anyone else but me. But it works for me. Not saying it's still doesn't look silly, just not as much so.
