Lets Buy A Wish Part II

I got the Wish today and it got here in good shape. You should have seen the faces on my friends at work... "What the hell is that?" I didn't really get a chance to play it too much at work, I guess I should have been working. I know this bass could be tweaked to play better and I'm pretty anxious about hearing it through my rig. I just wish the back of the neck wasn't laquered...

I'll post pics and a review soon.

Thanks Pierce!

Wowza, you guys were right. This thing does need a lot of work. I brought it to the gig but just couldn't bring myself to sacrifice a perfectly good song by using this bass on stage. The neck is like a baseball bat with strings, the finish is horibble and the headstock is huge. But it does sound pretty good, great for an upright tone while playing with the plucking hand over the fretboard. If I would buy one, I'd definetly get it bare and finish it myslef. But for $250, not a bad deal. But it really makes me appreciate my MIM Jazz fretless...

The ladies seemed to love the Wish though...

sorry for not putting my update in. it arrived monday evening in perfect condition..well considering it is a wish. unfortunately i had a chem test wed., and i had to catch up on the studying.

right after the test i pulled it out of the box, and brought it to practice. (btw, nice boxing job, juneau...i loved it). well, its so ugly, that i like it. my mates were like "what the hell is that thing!?!?". after i explained the whole deal, they were in total agreement that it was well worth the $10. :)

this thing sounds horrible. its so farty i dont even know if it is useable on stage or in recording. this is thru my thunderbass rig. i tried shifting the eq around, but nothing made it better. it seems as though the intonation shifts further behind the position markers as you progress up the neck. it is nice that the body has been planed near the cutaway to facilitate playing ease, BUT the extended range is hampered by the narrow channel of the cutaway. i also wondered if it would have a better sound with flats on it.

i cant provide definitive fretless opinions, as this is the first one i've played, but i would have to assume that fretless basses HAVE TO sound better than this one. saying all that, i wouldnt mind owning it, but i wouldnt pay much for one ($50).

i dont know if we have finalized what is to happen with this bass, but i have a few suggestions:

1. get the list of the first "lets buy a wish" thread, and continue the bass onto that group when we are finished.

then

2. raffle amoungst the ppl who put in for the bass, or
3. find a willing luthier to donate his skills to "better" the bass, then recirculate amoungst the group, to rereview it. it would be great advertising for that luthier.

oh, and i will get it shipped out this sat (first opportunity to get to a kinkos). i may be able to get it recorded friday night, and hopefully get a chance to let benjamin strange check it out.

it is going to Lewis7789 next, correct?

I keep hearing people complaining about the intonation. I also read one post where they said that the scale was "now around 33.5 inches". Please excuse me, but...DUHHHHHH! Move the bridge back already. Yes, it DOES move....detune until the strings are slack...slide it back....and tune and check intonation with the 15th fret dot...(don't do it at the octave, because that double dot thing is CORNFUSING

Hey guys, I'm coming up quickly in the list of victims of this abomintion, but I'm getting kinda busy at work for the next 2 months, so if everyone's OK with it and it doesn't mess things up too bad I was hoping I could put off my sentence for a while. I don't mind kicking in some extra for whoever needs to ship the beast a bit farther than usual.

Kinda sucks, I've been itching to check the thing out, but I want to have enough free time to really check it out.

I'm cool with it; whatever works....

If it's any help to you, LajoieT, you really won't NEED a whole week. But if you want to wait, that's your choice. Why do you think it gets around so quick? Aside from its delay in FL, I mean. It does have it's upside, though. Makes a handy weapon to have onstage, where it kinda looks like it belongs... :D I know I'd hate to get hit with it...

The Wish came today; you guys are too cruel. I've played worse, made by big companies. I've played a number Gibsons that was worse, all Kays, a couple of Fenders that were worse and a Copley. It isn't as ugly as I was expecting. I'll post a clip tomorrow.
