I bought a cheap Caline Wine Cellar and that's pretty nice actually. Haven't recorded with it yet. Also picked up an old Yamaha BP1 Not a pedal but it sounds amazing. You could spend more than I did on the rack unit on a pedal and it wouldn't sound nearly as good. Check em out if you get a chance.
It's an old thread, but I found this tiny passive device, described as a tone sweetener, perfect for example if one wants to soften a harsh saturation pedal…

Love mine, my number one magic tone sauce pedal, I couldn't do without it, why I bought a backup, just in case something should happen to the one I use currently in my setup beyond repair.
It's a tube driven optical compressor, with its 2 preamp tubes operating at proper high 300V plate voltage.
I use it more so as a tube preamp stage though, with the compression dialed in so that it practically never kicks in, and the input gain dialed up to drive the tubes at just at the edge of the breakup point.
Used this way it adds a subtle light natural tube compression, and a lovely genuine, harmonically enriched, tube warmth to the signal.
Just makes everything you run through it sound better.
It is of course subtle, but makes all the difference, and you can clearly tell the difference without it, just absolute magic.

I've tried this one, as well as its predecessor, the 23Fe. I really like what it does for the tone, especially when it is placed just behind a boost, or something else that is feeding it a hot signal. To my ears, it adds warmth and a bit of richness to the sound. The description on the Lightning Boy website is pretty accurate, in my experience.

Currently have an LBA 2020S and a 2020 peppered in a chain, each before some digital effects. The 23Fe+ colors more than a 2020S which itself adds more than a 2020. Really improves feel.
I really like my Hagerman Valve. I recently put it in front of a Line6 Pod Express Bass and it creates lovely grit and creaminess.

When you put a tube pedal in the chain, does it keep the tube goodness through the entire path, all the way to the FOH? Or is it better to have the tube after all the digital effects?
There’s no FOH, this is my board in my office so it goes from the Pod express into my PC (the Pod is the interface). But yes, you get the creamy, grimy tube goodness all the way through.
