Let's see those blue basses!

The bass actually tunes from the bridge. It doesn't need double ball end strings, rather you feed the head-end of the string through the headstock, lock it with a clamp operated by the legs and then snip it flush. It looks like a really neat system and means I can string it with my preferred DR DDT strings.

Those are the craziest tuners I've ever seen. How do they work?

I'm pretty sure that bass is tuned with the knurled knobs at the back of the bridge. Those things at the headstock simply lock the string in place.

Here’s my USA Custom Guitars (usacg) build. View attachment 2902279

While I loved how this instrument looked, I couldn’t fully bond with the jazz bass sound, even though I like when others play one. I got good sounds but always reverted back to a p.

So, since this was a build, I went back to work. I sold the usacg body (that I had finished in nitro daphne blue), the fralin split j neck pu, pickguard, and got back to work.

I wanted a lighter weight version of my 75/73 fender pj. I already had a vintage 1971 p pickup as well. I also bought some Hipshot ultralites. I just need to sell off the Hipshot lollipops despite loving the way they look and the nickel plate a covers from the jazz.

I got a lightweight swamp ash p bass body from warmoth and went to work finishing it to match the neck from the jazz build.

Current specs:
Weight 8.6lbs
Warmoth lightweight swamp ash body
Usacg maple neck with rosewood fretboard (1.5” nut, 9.5” radius and 6230 frets)
Hipshot usa ultralight tuners
1971 fender precision pu
fralin split jazz bridge pu
Suntanned parchment pearloid pg

It’s a very seafoamy daphne, but everything matches.

My CIC squire jazz. Had Bart's in it when I got it. Wife and kids got it for me for Father's Day! They were just as surprised as I was when it just showed up in the living room!!
Kinda starting to dig the lack of guard look. Not for everyone but I like it.
