Let's spread some musical misinformation

Contrary to poular belief, left-handedness is a choice. All allegedly left-handed people are just faking it to annoy instrument manufacturers.

Also, the sound of a bass depends on the shape of it's body and headstock. So, there is no audible difference between an original instrument and it's chinese knock-off counterpart.
Resuming: Left-handed knock-off basses built by annoyed Chinese manufacturers are a choice with exact the same sound quality as the right-handed originals. Makes sense...

Pete Townsend destroyed countless guitars, over time, in performance, with The Who. Contrary to popular belief, this was not part of the act.

Pete has always been very short sighted and truly hates cockroaches, with a passion. Often times, in the low light stage environment, his imagination would run away with him. Sometimes, at the height of a set, cockroach-like shadows would materialize and, out of nowhere, start racing across the stage, under his feet. This would completely unnerve him.

Feeling beset, Mr. Townsend would invariably freak out and become compelled to go after those roach wraiths with the only weapon he had at hand - his guitar. The rest, as they say, is history.

Still, despite our best efforts, stage dwelling shadow-cockroaches remain on the scene, alive and well. Though still being crushed, left, right, and center stage, by thousands of short-sighted pop starstruck punk rockers, in every corner of the known universe, those despicable shadow roaches survive, and sometimes they thrive.

Yes...exactly....and Roger Daltrey often saw the same ones Pete did too......which is why he swung the microphone in great circles.........prepping to take the cockroaches out with it if Pete missed with his guitar......

I often noticed large weird insects ( as well as unknown spirit-like beings)on the stage when I went to concerts back then.......so I admire Pete for having the guts to try to do something about those annoying infestations.....

Good post, Tom............it's about time somebody illuminated the real facts behind the story.......well done.....

The 18-stage evolution of a Talkbass embryo........

(1) Person buys bass guitar

(2) Buys a second one later that week when turns out it isn't a P-bass.

(3) Buys an amp

(4) Returns amp because nobody on TB thought it was any good..........and buys a massive cabinet Hartke.

(5) Sets up in basement and plays along to favorite rock records at maximum volume........every night for months ....

(6) Tires of that so invites friends over to play who themselves have just bought drums and guitar. Guitar player has 5 different fuzz and distortion pedals.

(7) To keep up, bass player buys 5 different fuzz and distortion pedals.

(8) All three play covers together at maximum volume.....every night for months.

(9) All three remain blissfully unaware they can't play jack crap.

(10) Drummer elects himself manager and books them for gigs at parties ........meaning they just show up at the party with their gear and decide to play for free .

(11) Parents boot bassplayer out of house....can't stand the racket every evening any more.

(12) Bass player stays at drummers apartment...until drummer gets evicted due to them jamming late at night.

(13) Drummer and bass player stay at guitarist's apartment until guitarist is evicted due to all three of them jamming late at night.

(14) Two years now....and they still can't play jack crap.

(15) All three are now homeless........no place to stay and no means of support. Parents won't take them back.

(16) To get some quick cash they put all their gear on Craigslist.

(17) Newbie lurker from Talkbass buys the bass guitar.

(18) Newbie buys another bass one week later....because this a P-bass ...and they said you should have a "J" as well.......

(19) Cycle starts all over again.......

Thanks, dude.

And thanks for the reminder too. I'd forgotten about Daltrey. He was, and still is, deadly using that shadow cocky wrangling mic technique. Plainly, he could take an eye out with that. And he often does. This pleases Mr. Townsend immensely.

Not just the most powerful guitarist in Rock, also the most powerful fartist in Rock. Mr. Pete Townsend letting one go:
Let there be no doubt, it's true. Mr. Pete Townsend's power is momentous.

Another little hitherto unknown factoid in support of this:

Mr. Townsend's HiWATT amps got their name because, whenever anyone approached him to say hi, he'd invariably say 'What?', being, as he was, deaf as a post from all the power of The Who's sound. The name HiWATT is a little lighthearted dig, an in joke, aimed specifically at Pete by Dave Reeves, the amp's designer.
