Once you have your truss rod adjusted so the neck has the proper relief, mix up a bunch of JB Weld and pack it in the cavity surrounding the nut. Fill it up, cram as much JB Weld in there as you can. This will secure the adjustment and save you hours of frustration in the future.
You can change your tone by boiling bass strings with the added ingredients.
Celtic/Bluegrass- boil with potato and cabbage
Metal - boil with forks for sharp aggressive tone. Use spoons for a rounder tone.
Blues - boil with alcohol. The cheaper the better
Pop Diva - boil with Rabbit
Country - boil with Possum
Funk - Rice Krispies (Snap, Crackle & Pop)

Great post, I believe this has more effect than the type of wood used in the body. That's my expert opinion and anyone who thinks different is an uninformed idiot. This comes from years of boiling different strings in all kinds of stuff, including lava and rocket fuel
That works for Nashville country only. For Texas country, boil with armadillo.

If you own a cheap bass, you suck and shouldn't really post here on TB.
