Let's spread some musical misinformation

Before digital delay (let alone before digital delay was affordable) delay was done in studio by placing the microphone a very long distance from the speaker cabinet. In those days, delay was a linear measurement. There were cases of delay being a mile or more requiring the use of very sensitive microphones. later, analog delay was accomplished with tape. The recording was wound around galvanized steel buckets to introduce delay, hence the name of the integrated circuit bucket brigade delay.
