Let's spread some musical misinformation

Now I'm confused about which post is misinformation. Perhaps because both trussrods are spares as they are technically not necessary on Rickenbachers. In which case both posts are only half wrong.

I thought left handed 8 string basses only have 7 strings, but right handed ones do have 8 strings for the same reason that the circle of fifths is fifths in one direction and fourths in the other. Similarly, left-handed 5 string basses only have 4 strings.

Tony Levin plays a Music Man 5 string, but since he is left handed twice he plays it right handed and it only has three strings.

The original acoustic bass from the violin family was a two stringed (only) instrument. Hence, the modern four string instrument is referred to as the "double" bass, and the five stringed version as the "double and a half" bass.

I actually ran across a three string version in a crazy old place in west Texas last year. Obviously built original as a three string; three tuner keys, and not modified from two or four. Unfortunately the box was busted probably beyond practical repair.

Bass guitar strictly only applies to the Fender Bass VI and similar instruments. The B to C strung six string is a triple bass.

The earplug was invented by opera singers so they don't have to listen to the awful noise that is opera.

Opera was actually invented by any early art prank group akin to the later Dada group, but no-one realised it was supposed to be a joke.

It is little known that Bob Dylan is an ardent devotee of Dada...
