With the introduction of strict emission standards in the early Eighties, The Cars, certain that their touring days were numbered, broke ranks and went their separate ways. Various independent bands emerged from the debris; The Taxis, The Limos, The Bread Vans, and The Black Marias, but all suffered a similar fate under the near throttling yoke of progressive Clean Air legislation.
Broken down and demoralized, the Cars finally reunited in a last ditch effort to kick-start the old dream, this time calling themselves The Rusting Hulks. But the band went nowhere, no surprise, and was soon permanently parked behind Ric's dad's barn.
