Contrary to popular belief, Hammond has never produced a genuine organ. A landmark court case in 1937 against Hammond by Organs R Us forced Hammond to rename their invention with a B for borg preceding organ to differentiate between the robotic Hammond contraption and the genuine, wind-driven, traditional pipe organ.
Nevertheless, the Hammond Borgan was a huge success, celebrated by players and punters, worldwide, and the young company flourished. Hammond's amazing device went on to help produce some of the most funky popular music of the Twentieth Century and everyone completely forgot about the initial furor.
A gap was surreptitiously introduced into the logo, between the B and the O, and so the Hammond Borgan evolved into the ubiquitous Hammond B organ we know and love today.
