This is completely true- where I live, Slovenia, we call the local country music "beef music" (goveja glasba) It is Alpine oom-pah oom-pah music with accordians and euphoniums and deedly-deedly clarinet, and busty ladies in traditional folk dresses. It's pretty awesome, really, and steady work for lots of musicians.
