Let's spread some musical misinformation

Tort pickguards were first adopted by Fender as a way of indicating that they were using the Law of Tort as a part of their lawsuit claim.

That's the law that says it comes with cake?

Cake does improve most things. I once gave cake to everyone in the audience at one of my gigs to improve their experience. Then next gig some requested some sandwiches before their cake. Then next gig some wanted coffee after. Anyway, I've given up gigging as the restaurant keeps me pretty busy now. I am not sure how I ended up in the business.

(Loosely based on facts in that in a previous band we once provided themed snacks at a gig)

It is well known that Jethro Tull went through many names before finally getting a repeat booking and keeping the name. Few know that U2 did the same, with single use names being F-104G, Republic Aviation Thunderbolt, Sopwith Camel. They'd got to U in Adam Clayton's encyclopedia of military aircraft by the time they got that repeat booking, so they never got to be called Westland Wapiti. They probably would have just gone with Wapiti, to be fair, and that would have been perfect if they'd pivoted to have become a world music band working with Peter Gabriel.

It's lucky that Jethro Tull got a repeat booking so soon as Terry Ellis's list of 18th century agriculturalists wasn't very long.

They say everything is better wrapped with bacon.... So I covered my bass with bacon, but it didn't work, I still can't make it through a full song without a stumble.....

Everyone gets that backwards. Bacon is the bass of breakfast. Eggs, hash browns, and toast are the accompaniments.

Some of the lesser know sayings:
the beef patty is the bass of the hamburger
the chicken is the bass of fried chicken
haddock is the bass of fish and chips

Clearly misinformed, I was mistakenly under the impression that haddock was mullet. So that's good to know. Truth be told, I've haddock up to my eye-teeth with all the flaky misinformation being bandied about the place. There's something fishy going on. Tuner fishy.

We really do need more bacon …

More evidence here of bassless pork-barreling. This just about wraps it up, for me.

If someone asks you to 'get a mullet' and the barber is closed then a haddock is a good substitute. Or if you are in Scandinavia, a jar of pickled herring.

These days a number of bass players are finding the advantage in “Drop tuning” or “down tuning” their basses to increase access to lower register notes on the fretboard.

A common drop tuning setup is BEAD. The most effective way to do this is to purchase a 5 string bass and remove the G string, leaving the BEA and D strings in place.

An alternative is to buy a BEAD string set and install it on your five string bass without removing the original B string. The redundant B string will then be used as a full neck thumb rest.

The original Precision prototype had just three strings - EAD because no one was going to use the G and it has a dead spot anyway. It was going to come with the slogan "Half as many strings - twice as easy to play as guitar". However, someone offered Fender a load of G strings for free, and Leo being the sort of man he was decided to incorporate them into the bass with an extra tuning post and the slogan "Now with 33% extra free".
