If the entire band use compressors, you can fit more people into the venue. The discovery of this effect gave rise to the little-known day of celebration - the Day of Maximum Occupancy.
In my experience, being able to fit more musicians on tiny stages would be more useful. U2 has often had to have extensions into the crowd to fit Bono, or at least his ego, on and some bands that seemingly can't afford the staging just have their singers stack themselves on top of the crowd. And that's with bands that don't have recreations of neolithic monuments on stage.
Geddy hated large stages, so he filled the extra space with washing machines.
Appliances and hardware are the new trend for stage gear and performance visual support.
And there are newer household appliances that are smaller, lighter, and quieter, and enable use in clubs and other smaller local venues. Fewer trips to the car (we love that!), smaller footprint, and performance equal to or better than the larger, older style appliances.
