All of which explains why although Leo Fender invented the electric bass guitar in 1941 the US government suppressed it until the necessary materials were no longer needed for the war effort.Then when acoustic guitars moved from gut strings in WW2 (people needed lots of guts for all the fighting so there was a shortage for instruments) they wanted nylons
Oh, and no silks on bass strings in WW2 as that was needed for parachutes.
