I'd have said that for a 1975 bass, your Precision is in fantastic condition, but no, it is not in what I'd specifically call "mint" condition.

I like how Elderly rates their vintage guitars and basses:
MC Mint Condition : when we say mint, we mean mint. No wear, like new out of the box.
EC Excellent Condition : Very clean, might have some minor wear, dings, scratches, or finish cracks, but otherwise very close to new condition.
VGC Very Good Condition : Basically clean, might have some deeper scratches, pick wear or missing finish. Nothing real serious, no cracks, unless otherwise stated.
GC Good Condition : Solid playing condition, may have one or more repaired cracks or other cosmetic flaws.
FC Fair Condition and PC = Poor Condition : Indicate that the instrument may have some problems, usually described.

Yes, excellent is what I'd consider right.
As for sound.. It's strung with tape wounds at the moment, waiting to clear everything up before I restring it so it's still at the office!
It's very light though and feels nice

Mint for me is no wear, not scuffing no nothing.
I got my Sub Ray used for $300 AUD, it came without a single mark, hang tag on the headstock and plastic still on the pickguard and pickup.

'Mint' was misleading. I hope you did not pay too much for that.
You need a fret job in the near future, that is even worse. It will cost you a couple of hundred.

Finding a nice 75 lightweight is possible, but not easy.

Send the seller the detail-pics and ask for a reduced price.

I wouldn't classify this instrument as mint. I would say it's in excellent condition. I think you have a legitimate grievance with the seller.

They know what "mint" is if there an actual dealer. I wonder what they told the seller it was when they purchased the bass? I'm guessing Good to Very Good and pointed out any flaw they could find. Is it possible to get import tax refunded if the item is returned?
I like Elderly's descriptions, too. It seems that "very good" sometimes really means "pretty beat," but the distinctions between EC+, EC, and EC- are miniscule. Those guys are detailed and careful.
For example, I've got a PRS on consignment there that was EC++ before I bought it. One ding on the top through to the wood made it EC-. I have seen them use the word "mint" almost never in the eight plus years I've been a customer.

Incorrect. By its very definition, mint condition is NOS.
"In the same condition it was when it left the factory - indistinguishable from new".
Mint = Factory fresh
Near mint or Mint minus = Has marks or blemishes that are nearly unnoticeable under close scrutiny
What you have = A nice specimen, but more in the 'Very Good' range, a notch below 'Excellent', IMO.

Mint and NOS are physically the same condition. The difference is NOS means it's never been sold.
I was referring to the physical condition only, but you are indeed right, Sir - I stand corrected.
Such a shame though.
The bass is a beautiful & exceptional example, but the seller was wrong not to disclose the rather obvious defects - defects they were well aware of when they sold it...
The reason I pointed that out is because it's virtually impossible to find a vintage NOS Fender instrument. That means a brand new Fender instrument sat in a store or warehouse for 40+ years unsold. If one were to be found it would be worth an obscene amount of money. The seller flat out lied describing that bass as NOS.

Check the pup and bridge cover. If they are new, then you know the guy is pulling a fraud. I'll bet all the "case candy" is new as well.
You should send the seller a link to this thread, and that you WILL report to all of us on the resolution of this obvious "miscommunication", WITH their name!

I'd give it an 8.0 plus a slight mojo factor for age and some playing; 8.5 total. Also, the seller doesn't understand the anal bass players personality. We probably have a few comic book collectors. Mint means perfect in that world.
