Light Basses

His Renaissance Ampli-coustic is a bonified 5.5 lbs, meaning that it's lighter than a six-pack of Schlitz. They feel wonderful, and even the most pedestrian woods are beautifully crafted, but have much more of an upright sound than a traditional bass guitar.

Aria Sinsonido. No kidding. They are cheap, comfortable and sound very good.

I think that Soloette may also have a higher end model in the works. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

I just had replacement disc surgery 6 weeks ago,

That's what I'm *supposed* to be having -- plus a fusion on an adjacent level -- if the insurance approves it.
Can you give me a little insight into what I'm in for with replacement surgery?
BTW, I'm convinced that years and years of carrying '70s-era cabs, sometimes drunk, sometimes in the snow, often carelessly and in a big rush, contributed to my problem.

My Jerry Jones Longhorn is one of the best sounding basses I've ever used--sees tones of recording time.

I had back surgery 16 years ago and got my Jerry Jones Longhorn not long afterwards, one because it was so light (under 6 lbs) and two because I couldn't reach out too far, I enjoyed the shorter scale.

15 years and two fretboards later, I retired it for my Fender Highway One, which is still WAY heavy, but now I sit for most of my performances, the standing situation is moot. The Longhorn is now situated in my studio where it gets used for the bulk of any recording work and has flatwounds on it for extra funky thump...

My suggestion is the Planet Waves Dare Straps or the Slider...I also have a custom leather strap "system" that has shoulder straps and a waist strap that distributes some of the weight to my hips (I'll try to get a picture of it)...

Lowbrow - sorry about your back brother. I'm trying to keep mine from getting that bad.

MIA Fenders are not out of my price range.

thanks for the good wishes -- now you know the main reason I chose to try and sell the St. Blues: pretty, and pretty heavy!

I'd advise you to definitely try and get some physical therapy advice and put together a stretching/exercise regimen to try and mitigate your problem and keep it from worsening -- the earlier the better. 90% of folks heal with a little attention paid to the problem; I hope you're in that group.

Good luck!
