Lightweight Cabinet rec?

The Markbass 2x12's are in the 36-39lb range (depending on which model you go for).

Their 4x10 are even lighter, and would handle pretty much anything.
MB58R 104 ENERGY – Markbass

If you are after more lightweight (under 25lb) and more compact size, then the 2x10's are another good option.

Mine has surprised me with the fullness of sound and the ability to carry some very decent sized gigs without PA support.

I wouldn't personally go with a single speaker cab for gigs unless I was assured of being able to go into the PA (Unless it was a small venue)
In that case, then yes, a single lightweight cab could be used as a personal monitor.

Your gigs may be different though, so YMMV

Mesa Subway cabinets are hard to beat for what you’re looking for and they’re generally available. Genzler Bass Array cabinets look really interesting, too. I’ve never heard them in person but I’d be very interested in them if I were looking.

If you can find one or even a pair of Barefaced Two10 cabinets used, they would be outstanding. I have the One10 and love the tone but I mostly use it at home because I need more cabinet for gigs. For gigs, I use a pair of Barefaced Big Baby 2’s that I was lucky to find used in outstanding condition. They probably have more volume and more depth that the xxx10 series but, based on you original post, I suspect the sound of the xxx10 series cabinets would suit your tone better than the Barefaced 12 series (which is what the Big Baby is).

EDIT: I said used Barefaced simply to avoid the wait. But don’t let me stop you from accepting the wait time and buying new. They’re outstanding cabinets.

Lots of good suggestions in here. I highly recommend Barefaced (which has already been mentioned a couple times in this thread). Their cabinets are super lightweight, brilliantly engineered, and have that full, rich sound you want. I personally use a Big Baby 3 which is a 1x12. But the best thing to do is reach out directly to Alex (the owner and designer at Barefaced) and tell him what your needs are. He'll ask you some follow up questions to best ascertain what cabinet will meet your needs. The man is highly knowledgeable so even if you decide to go a different direction, you'll certainly come away more informed.

Is there a reason a 2x12 (that's not too heavy) wouldn't work for you?

You'd get an even fuller sound, takes no more floor space, higher so easier for you to hear, and you won't be pushing it as hard to get the same volume which helps with longevity.

Anyway... that's my only recommendation.. :)

+1 on 212s vs 112. It's a much better experience. However, instead on 212s in one cab, I'd rather have (2) 112 cabs for the times you don't need both cabs. And I bet there would be more of those situations that one might expect.

Why would one need the option of one 12" cab when the 2x12 would be better in any circumstance?

I just don't get this mentality.

More modular: less to carry at once and gives you the option for stereo. Also you might have a smaller vehicle and it might be easier to load two 1x12s. Or maybe you have a cafe gig and judge no more than one cabinet is needed. Or it lets you leave one cabinet at a rehearsal space and one at your home. And then, when you need both for a gig, you grab the second one but that way you aren't having to bring both to every rehearsal and back.

Modular Shmodular...

Stereo bass :roflmao:

If you can't fit a 2x12 in your car, you need a real car.

Get a 2x12 for gigging and some old POS for the rehearsal space.

Why handle two cabs at any gig when you can handle one.

Not if you are going up fifty flights of steps a night to play in a phone booth. Marco, I think you can use a little more of your imagination. LOL!!

Actually, I have two 210 cabs as opposed to one 410 for the fact at least 70% of the time I only need one to get the job done. Do I really want to lug around an extra 50lbs for something I don't need? Or in the case of a 212 cab, and extra 25lbs?

Keep in mind, this is Talk Bass where decisions on gear are made based on ounces... LOL!!

Have a good one Marco!
