Line 6 HX Effects

Ignore the guitar in the middle
Of the floor but mine is setup with loops. I’ve put the dirt pedals in one loop for my bass. The other loop I’m using for 4cm with my guitar rig. The boneshaker and carcosa are new so I’m still dialing them in a bit. Currently love them on bass but not so much with my guitar. Flip flopping the order of stuff in different scenes is starting to get pretty awesome though. Now if only I could have band practice.

I found the ideal application for my HX Effects. While I use it on some live gigs, I still find that in the heat of the moment I prefer to have separate boxes where I can see everything that's going on. The HX is by far the best of any multi box I've used, but old habits die hard - hard for me to be that prepared in advance :D

That said, I had an 8 week run doing live improvised music for a SciFi show. We were IEM since we set up on-set and couldn't bleed into the performer's mics. The HX was perfect for dialing up whacky noises and sounds (we were a 3-piece with keys, bass, and eDrums).

A "making of" video for the show music

And just for grins, a duo at farmers market last week

General questions about the HX Effects box:

* In general, I find programming modern effects unpleasant; my GT-1B is very intuitive. Is thi pretty straightforward and painless?

* Really what I want is a single stomp box interface with: Compressor, Chorus, Reverb, Octaver, Light Overdrive, Heavy Overdrive. Do those HX effects do a pretty good of this? All six would fit on the main "stomp box screen?" I don't suppose there is a ready-to-go basic bass library of tones ready to load up somewhere?

* If all the "pedals" are not engaged, is it effectively in bypass mode? i.e. it looks like you have to press two buttons at once to get "total bypass"...but is this the same as just not engaging any "pedals?

* I feel the HX is a total breeze to program. Line 6 really made a great platform to build on when they designed it. Took me maybe 20 min and I was navigating quickly and with ease.

* Hell yes it does a fine to good to superb job with all the effects in it IMO. It has some presets already programmed in upon powering a new unit. But most are dialed for guitar. But again, very easy to tweak and or build your own patches. There is also the Line 6 Custom Tone site where you can share and download others' patches.

* You can set the bypass however you want it. It's got buffered bypass, DSP bypass or you can even set some effects to be always on but not visible on your scribble strips. Or not. You can do almost anything you want with the HX. It rules like that. You can also totally bypass the HX by stomping 2 particular switches at once. That bypasses the whole unit while passing your naked bass through.

Thank you!

I'll also add that you will/should have to update the unit to the latest firmware (I believe that's 2.70 atm) when you first get it. Which isn't that difficult. There may or may not be a couple computer hurdles to jump over depending. But I know I was able to get it done on like 15 min even when I ran into issues.

Cool, thanks.

Updating the firmware on my DSP isn't very rock'n roll, is it? But that' the world of music this these days, eh?

Well, there is the love. What is the hate?
Hi,
I love the sounds I get from the Pitch Ring Mod and the Dual Pitch, and the low latency of the attack, but cannot stand the glide sound before it reaches the note I'm playing... Where is the right place to inform to Line6? Here? Ticket support? Ideascale?
Here is the love and the hate, both together.
My headache is the almost. The effects I use most are very good, ALMOST perfect: tuner, octave down, octave up, compression, OD, envelope filter... So always thinking about upgrading.
