Line 6 HX Effects

hmm, does t seem ideal since there are times when I’ll want it off. Plus, I would be limiting the number of blocks I can use for modulation stuff if there’s a perpetual 4-block hold. Am I understanding this correctly?

Sounds like I should look further into the ml5 though

What's "it", when you say you want it off?
If you want the ES-5 off completely (ie: no effects) just turn the effects loop block off on the HX.
Don't turn the loop off on the ES-5. Only turn it off on the HXFX. If you turn it off on the ES-5, it'll stop signal flow completely, as the HXFX will still be routing signal to Send 1 (and therefore never being returned)

All Loop 1 is doing in this circumstance is being reserved for the "master" signal flow between the ES-5 and HXFX.

And yep, technically you'll be down to 5 blocks in the HXFX. If you want to keep one spare, rather than being reduced to 4 blocks available, keep your outboard EQ.

This is hard to follow without reading each post repeatedly. But it sounds like you never need more than 4-5 blocks on the HX running at any given time. Since you have the ES5 for MIDI control, have you considered getting the HX Stomp instead? Has amp modeling and is much smaller (with a 6 block limit). Still has 2 effects loops and the ability for expression control. Might even allow you to ditch some of the other misc pedals since it has amp sims.

Just a thought.... :)

Thought about it. Thing is, I got the HXFX to explore the possibilities of patches made with 9 blocks.

Given the direction of the previous few posts, do we want to have an overdrive share-a-thon?

I have been using the KWB, Gain 6.0, Push = Germanium, Pull = LED, Bass and Treble to taste (I usually keep mine flat because I EQ down the line with an Obsidian 7k with overdrive turned off), Level 7.8, Asymm 0.

Keep in mind that I also use a speaker IR (Either the 3Sigma MegaBass or an Ownhammer 410) and always go direct with no amp on stage.

I started with the HX Effects. Tried the Stomp and decided I liked the amp models and now I ALSO have an LT.
The Stomp is a great portable rig. You just have to be OK with using more presets to cover different possibilities.

The LT with double the processing power is a big jump up.

When the Stomp came out, many people (myself included) were really wondering why they didn't allow amp models on the FX. Now that I have used the Stomp and run out of DSP, I know why.

I found an unofficial list of DSP usage.

FWIW, I use the DVP4 with my HX. It works fine, but for it to work properly, I had to flip the reverse switch internally and then I reversed it again on the HX settings. Don't ask my why that was necessary, I just know it makes it work perfectly for me. I also use a TS cable, but I seem to remember that TS or TRS didn't make a difference. Haven't experimented with cables again recently.

When it was set normally before, it would sweep all the way by the mid-point on the pedal and then sweep all the way the other direction again the rest of the sweep. Very weird.

I personally don't use it enough, need to experiment with all the possibilities the expression pedal offers. I currently use it either as a volume sweep or a mix sweep for my Octabvre Mini.

Don't think I thanked you for this. Just received a DVP4 and experienced the same midpoint sweep you described.

Now I know it's not broken and can be adjusted. Appreciate the help!

This is great!! I had the same issue. And now it’s fixed. Sweet. Thanks guys!

I just need to flip SW1 from TIP to RING and the polarity is reversed, right?
