Line 6 HX Effects

Also, I have two questions about overdrives/distortions/fuzzes:-

1 - what are the drives like inside the HX effects? I’d be fully using any in parallel and possibly with the crossover function (side question - still new to crossovers and crossover frequencies. Could someone possibly explain briefly what would be the best frequency for the lows to pass as a standard starting point when using drives? Is there any good articles and threads (possibly on talkbass) to read that explain easily, please could you share).

2 - when using external drive pedals inside one of the effects loops on the HX effects, how do they sound? Just the same as if you were running them by themselves? Finally - there’s a mix (or dry/wet) function for any effects loop block, is that correct?
One of the great things about this is you can experiment and tweak things so incredibly easily. Crossover settings, moving the order of effects around...it literally takes a second. And as long as you remember to save something you like, it's simple to go back as well.

How have you found switching things up on the fly with the HX effects? say you're at rehearsal and you need to change some parameters like the mix, level, tone etc of certain effects to suit the room?

Very easy...and I don't even use snapshots which I think would make it even easier still.

Finally - do you have any experience with hooking up external drive pedals as an effects loop block within the HX effects? Do you know if they sound just as good, as if you were to use them by themselves? and each effects loop block has a mix (wet & dry) control function right?
I've had issues with a couple (the Ibanez PD7 is one) where if I have it in the effects loop, or fed from the output of the HX, I get some extra hissing but only when I play a note...it's not a constant hiss. But other pedals there's been no issue at all. So I'm not sure if those few like the PD7 have some quirk, or if I simply haven't gotten some setting right in the HX (I have tried using both line and instrument level settings and that didn't make a difference).

Thanks - what about the overall sound quality of the drive? As in, do you notice any loss of highs or a different tone to how it would sound if the pedal was used on its own?

Hi guys,

Quick question - apologies if it's a stupid one

Just to check, the HX Effects has all the older legacy effects inside it right? as in all the stuff included in the M5/M9/M13 and the old stompbox modelers like the FM4/DL4 etc?

I assume it does as the latest Manual on the site says they are there:

Just wanted to double check

You are gonna love it. My only marginal gripe is its lack of tube power amp simulation because then I could pair it with a preamp pedal and be pretty much done but this is not a nonstarter for me. I just got a two notes torpedo cab m+ to pair with it and my pre. The bonus is that frees up a eq block and the ir block for more dsp on my hx fx.

I'm thinking about doing exactly this, but wouldn't it be clever to pair it with a stomp instead of the torpedo?
Then I could use the fx like pedalboard and the stomp like bi-amp and DI...
And even add if needed a few more blocs to the chain!

Hi,

Recently I have discovered that Hx Effects has impedance balanced outputs!!
Any of you tried using a TRS to XLR? Does it work any better? Could be the ground lifted?

While I edit my patches I use HX Edit in my desktop PC and my amp to hear what I am doing. Just in the moment I plug the USB cable in the PC, I hear digital noise from the amp.

By now I use TS cables and a Hum Cancelation box. Digital noise disappears but appears a little bit of hum:roflmao:
What do you think? My amp's input is TS, would TRS cables with ground lifted work?

Thank you!

I answer myself to one question.
-My amp's input is TS, would TRS cables with ground lifted work?
-it doesn't work as a ground noise cancellator because my amp doesn't have balanced input.
Would ground lift work in a balanced input?

Hi guys,

Loving my new HX Effects, so much to explore and it's a lot of fun!

Quick question, how do you guys apply the unit to your boards using velcro?

Is there anyway to remove the little feet on the bottom so it's just flat? That way I can easily apply velcro

At this point I cannot remember if it was simply preemptive paranoia, or if there was a real problem with the length of the screws applied without the feet, but I chose to leave the feet on. I made a little spacers out of thin strips of wood covered in Velcro. It’s been extremely stable and successful.

Pretty sure the feet are only attached to the bottom plate - meaning the screws aren't holding the case together. Take 'em off and see if it falls apart! (it won't)
