Line 6 HX Effects

like you have it setup, but ditched the expr to the right. Move everything to the right, then fit the 2-button switcher to the very left. And connect hxfx and and stomp with midi, to make it so much easier to control.

I ended up “settling” for now on this

Im thinking I may end up having to move the HXFX down to the first row. Maybe. What do you think about the placement?? I’m running an exp off board.

"Settling." lol Very nice board!

Regarding HXFX placement: Would it be easier to use if it were in the front? (i.e. How much do you step on switches and is it easily accessible where it is now?) That's totally why my HXFX ended up in the front row. Just a "quality of life" type placement. And which exp pedal are you running? It looks like you'd have room to shimmy everything in the front row to the right, and you could maybe fit that Dunlop Mini Vol you've got on there, yeah?

Just some thoughts!

I actually did move it to the front row. Works a lot better there in many ways. But now I’ve got another issue. I was using the HXFX main IN as my main IN. In the front row, I can’t really do this. So now I need to figure out a new IN to plug my bass into......

Im using the EHX dual exp. I’m gonna run it off my board. I think I’m gonna run one exp side to the black hole and maybe one to the HXFX to control pitchshifting and such. That’s what I’m thinking atm anyway.

(Still haven’t tied the bottom up yet so it appears as though some are hanging off the edge. Because they are. Still need to finish tying it all up is all):

Gregmon, looks better. I find it hard to hit those switches if on the 2nd row. Unless i have something under to lift it up. Do you have any of the other pedals in the fx loops of the hxfx(or stomp)? Makes it easier to push them on/off by switching the fx block.

I did have the C4 in one of the HXFX loops. But I took it out. I needed an main IN for my bass. So I took it out of the loop and just set it in line. Worked better that way.

Still trying to figure out exp control on the black hole now. But I’m getting there!!

(last one. Sorry y’all!)

I have been using the Rochester compressor since it came out with the last update and have been happy with it. Yesterday I decided I would change it from the default 10:1 setting to a 4:1 setting to hopefully allow a little more in the way of dynamics. However, at rehearsal today there were several times when I would play a whole note or play a quieter note that needed to ring out for awhile and I was getting a lot of loud unnatural swells. I thought the lower setting would be more natural. I didn't have this problem the last several months at the higher setting. Do I have it backwards? Does the higher setting compress less?

Not in a traditional compressor - less ratio = less compression.

Is it possible that your input gain has somehow changed, or that you've changed the threshold on the compressor? If your input signal is louder, or if your threshold is lower, you'll be compressing more.

I think. Someone else prove/disprove for me?

Hey all. So I’m trying to mess with the new poly models on my HXFX. How the heck do I get an exp pedal to work?! I set my parameters and I can see them moving when I move my expression, but it doesn’t actually sweep/work. It doesn’t do anything. The effect is on, and it works, and you can physically see the exp sweeping the parameters I chose the exp to sweep, but it doesn’t actually audibly sweep.....I’m confused....

Updated my HX FX today, and the first thing I checked out was the poly pitch shifter. Pretty cool first impression. I have never run out of DSP before, but after adding some fuzz, verb, and modulation, when I tried to add a delay to the 6th block, there were none available. The only models that showed up in the menu were the models that would run on the remaining DSP. Poly is a hog indeed.

HUGE hogs. The glitch delay is a bug one too. Def gotta be careful. There are ways around some of this stuff.

Wowie zowie! Just did some more browsing of the new models and my joy continues to grow. The Poly Sustain and Multi Pass delay are wonderfully fun, weird, and musically viable. It’s very gratifying that Line 6 keeps on giving.

HX FX has always, and continues to check all the boxes for me in the realm of multifx. 1978 me is so envious.

The Poly Sustain kicked my EHX Freeze off my board, its awesome.
Mixed with my MC8 midi controller, I step on a switch which activates the sustain, which then let's me switch up hand positions for a few misc solo's while that last note holds, and when I let go of the footswitch, sustain quickly decays and it flips to the solo snapshot on my HX.
I'd been trying to accomplish that 'simple' flow control forever, and finally its a thing!

I finally got around to updating mine today (been without a computer for a couple months).

Also finally realized how slick it is to use HX Edit to build and arrange my presets.

Yeah I’m a little slow to catch on to things.
I haven't updated mine yet. Combination of laziness and the whole "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality.

On an unrelated note, I've been digging the Clawthorn Drive lately. I've also had fun getting all spacey with the Particle Verb.

I will say, the 3.01 update is amazing in regards to all the new effects it added. I'm normally in the same boat as you (only apply bugfix firmware updates if I'm hitting the bugs), but this is definitely a whole-buncha-new-stuff update as well.
You can poke around Line 6 Helix Effect Models | List with all effect models in Helix and see what all new effects you get per firmware version.
