Line 6 HX Effects

The Gator ProGo was the one I was going to suggest as well. I've been thinking about finally replacing my iGig double bag after a good 15 year run, and a friend has the Gator... definitely seems like a well built bag and the way I'll go for a replacement. It's too bad iGig isn't around anymore though. I have a single and a double, and the front pockets are absolutely cavernous.

I haven't updated to the latest firmware yet. How is the Black Russian model?? Really looking forward to updating and trying it out. The Black Russian was always one of my fav muffs.
I just did the 3.60 update today. The Dark Dove is pretty cool. Only spent a short time with it. The way the sustain maintains and blooms, and the way harmonics rise as the sustain fades, feels and sounds very much like my OG 71 Triangle Muff. Sounds much closer to that version than it does a Green Russian.

It’s actually based off of the Black Russian if I’m not mistaken. So what you’re hearing is probably actuate. I feel the Black Russian can get in that territory of a triangle muff. Quite unlike the green Russian in ways.

thanks for the feedback. I was able to play it a little today. I don’t have my amp in the apt atm. Played it through a lil practice speaker. Not the best to gauge anything off of. But I was liking what I heard. It seems like it’s got good range as far as muffs go. But even a couple other ones I’ve tried on digital modelers, they sound great. Ranges in the parameters very a bit.

Will have to check it out the Dove.

I finally updated to 3.60 on my Stomp last night... Waited until a "safe period" between gigs. I only had enough time to check out the Sledge, and really dig that one so far. I've got an SGT on my board at the moment in the preamp spot, but have had a Tone Hammer on and off (more on than off) as a preamp for years. Seems pretty faithful.

Are you saying there's a Tone Hammer model now in 3.60?

Indeed. Among a bit of other stuff as well, including that model of the Russian Big Muff that @jbybj and @gregmon79 mentioned above.

However, since this is the HX Effects thread... it comes with the disclaimer that the HXFX is the only one in the Helix line that doesn't do amp/cab sim. I'm toying with the Sledge on my Stomp.

Firmware 3.60 notes here for full details.

I've read that IRs are better than Helix Cabs. Very easy to add your own.
Don't know why we don't get some bass preamps, they are FX or EQ after all.

THis is not correct. All the bass preamps are in the preamp section of the other Helix units. The HX Effects has 100% of what the other Helix units has, except the Amps, Preamps and Cabs sections.

The reason we're not getting the preamps in the HX Effects is that they're the same as the amps, only without the power amp modelled. There are no preamps in the Helix that don't have a corresponding full amp model, except studio mic preamp

So in this case, why is there a Tech21 BDDI and a Darkglass B7K? From my POV, those are preamps.

Can't argue this, and now that you've pointed that out, I can't "un-see" it. :)

Along those lines, it'd be nice to see some other preamp pedals modeled. The Tone Hammer pedal would be an obvious choice since they already did the work for the amp model, and the Q Strip also immediately comes to mind. Maybe a Trickfish Minnow? It'd be nice to have some Pope love in the Stomp!

Because they're pedals. All the preamps are from real amps, just without the power amp modeling. They literally model the preamp section of real amps.

If Line6 decided to model the Tone Hammer pedal, it would be placed in the distortion category along with the B7K and BDDI

We're free to argue about the validity of this approach, but that's how it is regardless of logic. All the models in the Distortion category are pedals, while all the models in the preamp section are amps.

I am using my Hx Effects as a preamp (and effects) before my Crown XLS1502. Sometimes just a parametric EQ block always on, sometimes adding parallel compression (Deluxe comp), sometimes adding ADT block (Delay section) to give some parallel OD with texture.
I don't think I need a dedicated preamp or a preamp section for the Hx Effects.
