Line 6 HX One

HX Effects is "your pedalboard", at least mine , with patches, 9 effects, many switches and scribble strips: different target.
HX One is way easier to use than an HX-Stomp, and a bit smaller. One effect at once is sometime what's missing on some pedalboards. So just one effect at a time + a tuner in one small pedal for $299 is a fair price. And midi in/out, stereo in/out, 9v instead of 12v, expression input, and it looks like a bargain. I think it's a good move from Line 6.
And yes it looks like an updated M5.

And then put them in a Helix effects loop, along with a TC Plethora, Quad Cortex, and a Zoom B6
Could you imagine?
Just continue to hook these “all in one” pedals into the effects loops of other “all in one”pedals forever.

I'm being serious though. Using the Stomp as a MIDI controller to a One (in the Stomp fx loop) could be really cool especially in the case of lack of DSP in the Stomp.

Its mainly just different form factors not everone can afford the full helix and some don't like how big and heavy large ect it is so line 6 offer several different versions and sizes using the same general sounds and features. My main gripe with this new hx one is its projected price is way too close to the stomp and hx fx for it to make alot of sense especially for guys that already have one or more of the other versions already. I got my hx fx used for only $375 shortly after it came out and it is already amazing for guys like me to want one it needs to be more affordable or offer something more unique to the other versions this is too close to the size of a hx stomp for it to be a huge benfit in size imho so it'd need to be closer to the $150-$200 price range for it to make alot of sense to me personally

It will be in your desired price range if you wait and buy it used as you did with the FX. As @RichSnyder said before, you cannot compare used to new prices in a meaningful way.

Does anybody just make a high-quality multi-fx where you can stack effects? I don't need a cab sim and a million inputs and outputs, I just want to tidy up my board.
I really like my HX Effects. I'm using the Tech21 BDDI model as my main sound so in theory I could gig with only that. I added an Ampeg preamp in on of the effect loops for smoother songs. I'm mainly using it as a pedalboard where I can activate effects on/off with its own switch.

Im also most likely going to grab one. The effects are solid, and it fills a great niche in my setup. Sometimes I just need a weird effect, and I’m not gonna rewire my whole board to put a reverse reverb in there for one section of one song that I may play a few times and then never again. This is great if you need a “wildcard” slot, and with MIDI it makes it super easy to recall it with an iPad or laptop. This is a winner in my book.

In a similar sense I think it could be good for people like Quad Cortex users (primarily EG users) to use to add "missing" effects while Neural plays catch up to other devices like Helix and Fractal.

I can see how it will be a great box for some folks.

I don't see it being super useful to me or others like me, though. If I wanted to use this as a drive sometimes, but a reverb others, or a pitch-shifter others, I use those in different spots in my signal chain. So unless they put several effects loops on it so I can program it to 'move' in my chain, it's going to be relegated to one spot and therefore one or maybe two effect types (generally, reverb or delay, since those go last or close to last on my board, but I also tend to use both of those together).

I think many of us are looking for the next Zoom MS series. A single-pedal-sized box that let's you stack a couple effects. But with improved sound quality and usability based on modern standards. For years, I used a Zoom MS as a chorus, delay, and reverb. I still would if I hadn't found a reverb+delay that I prefer the functionality of.

Question for HX power users (but specific to the HX One unit):

Are the basic mix parameters on most effects accessible via the expression pedal?

I’d love to blend in certain effects without having to lurch for the “mix” knob on the actual pedal.

I’ve always had this problem. Set up a great sounding effect at home and it’s either too light or way too much on the gig!

One of the greatest things about the HX Stomp is the effects chain and how easy it is to combine different effects in a number of ways.

I’d miss not to be able to combine a utility (comp) with an effect, or an effect with dirt, a preamp and a booster.. things like that are the essence of the HX. What’s the point of cutting that off? They could at least allow 2-3 pedals combos.
