I'm having trouble using an expression pedal with the M5. I tried to follow the manual's instructions, but it wasn't really working the way it's supposed to. Could someone try explaining to me in clearer terms than the manual, or make a tutorial. Maybe my expression pedal isn't compatible? I'm using a Roland EV-5. Is that ok, or do I need a Line 6 expression pedal?

Anyone have any luck using a moog ep2 with theirs? I can get it to change settings, but it goes from the lowest value to highest and back through a single sweep.

I would like to be able to have the lowest value of a given parameter at the heal position and highest at the toe.

Any ideas?

Does the moog have a TRS cable? Line 6 stuff likes a mono cable for the expression input.

EV-5 is compatible, though it can be a little frustrating when setting it up. First, make sure the knob on the side is always at 10. If it gets bumped after you make your settings you won't get the full sweep. Not sure what you're looking to do, but here's a quick example for pitch shifting 1 octave up.

-With everything connected and powered on, set the expression pedal to the toe up/heel down position.
-Adjust Pitch Glide to 0.0 and Mix all the way up.
-Rock the expression pedal forward into the toe down/heel up position.
-Adjust Pitch Glide to 12.0 and Mix all the way up.
-Rock the pedal back and forth a few times to make sure the settings are correct.

That should do it.

Just chiming in that I got one of these bad boys yesterday and took it to practice last night. Most of the effects are probably going to be waiting for a while for their moment to shine. However, pitch shift is rad. Tune everything down a 1/2 step (my guitarist loves his stupid capo) in the click of a button. I can even go down for extra low notes mid song if I need to and shift right back!

Not sure if there is any significance to this, but the M5 is no longer showing up on the GC web site. I pinged to asks about it, an they replied that they were no longer going to carry it.

Reading this thread, I got GAS for one, and was going to make use of a recent GC discount, but it was not to be. Seems odd since the M5 is featured in the recent GC anniversary flyer that I received.

It still shows up at MF, FWIW.

Agreed. This is what they said when I inquired:

I questioned why it was in the anniversary catalog, and this is what they said:

They do not say so explicitly, but the implication certainly is that it is discontinued, Maybe a post in the Line 6 thread may be in order.

I bought the M5 with a lot of expectations after reading some reviews...i still believe is an incredible tool...but i have a problem that it seems to be more common that i thought. Everytime i play i notice that my M5 sometimes flashes and kind of power off and on back again...i loose the effect and the screen flashes different ways...then you can hear like a rely sound insided the pedal...like a rely changing volts or something. I did noticed the m5 comes with a 9v 250ma when it should be maybe a 9v 500 ma instead...? when i google about line 6 m 5 problems i see many others with the same problem and nobody still knows what it is...Can anyone tell if this is a known problem now...? Anyone here had this issue as well? Thanks in advance for any help!:crying:

I did notice that my first M5 came with a 250mA power supply and my second one was a 500mA. I use a OneSpot to power it currently. If I can find the 500mA power supply I'll send it to you. No promises though, I may have thrown it out.

Hello everyone.
I was thinking to go back to line6 effects lately, but got some doubts. Lot of questions.. sorry in advance :ninja:
I'm more interested in Chorus and Verb models.

I used a BODXT pro for 6 years, and I remember its verb/delay models were good enough. But actually, I don't know if I will miss my Dynaverb if I go with one of these M boxes.

I also remember its CE-1 chorus model, was not for me.. I was more into the deluxe digital model instead, which is not available on the M boards.
Since I know the Roland Dimension is not the kind of chorus I'm after either, there's only one left: how is the Tri-Chorus on bass?

(I see they overlooked the chorus department on these Stompbox Modelers, and don't understand why. Only three boxes)

Also, I read a JMJ post saying he runs his M9 on a true bypass loop, since they are tone-suckers. Do you agree?

Last thing: Do you have annoying different output levels when changing presets on the M5? I read of someone complaining about this back in this thread.

I'm bringing this thread back, now that the honeymoon is over. Who still owns and loves an M5?

My main questions/concerns are:

1 Is it true you can't adjust the output levels on the different effects??

2 Can you get any decent filter or synth sounds out of this unit?

3 How much of a pain is it to scroll through presets in a live setting?
