Alright. I bought one 6 months or so ago so I've probably gigged it 50 or so times.

1. Correct.
2. Not that I've found.
3. Kind of a pain.

All that said its really good for what it does. It replaced 4 effects on my board and does a really good job of them. Chorus, octaver, flanger, phase. The octaver is possibly the best I've used. I would buy it again any day for just that....I've owned and gigged all the usual suspects in this department. I do find the screen a bit impractical on a hectic stage though. Preset changing can be a real pain in a live setting in my opinion.

Again though, $150 on the used market is stupid cheap for this. Flaws aside, u get a lot for a little money.

Hmmmmm... Interesting Fitz. I've had thoughts of a small multi on the back burner for a while and your answers to questions 1 and 2 are enough to convince me the M5 isn't for me. Since I'm both a filter junkie and OCD about matching levels, guess that'd be a deal breaker for me.

Hi guys,
I'm looking to buy the M5 but I need inputs from people who uses the M5. Hope u guys can help me out by answering these questions.
1. Is the M5 a combined version of the DL4 FM4 etc. I.e. does it sounds the same, or does the more massive circuitry in the FM4 make better sounding filters.
2. I plan to use the M5 for filter effects after distortions. There is a mix knob for the filtered but I'm concern how clean is the clean blend. Will it suck out my tone?
3. Can I use the filter settings as funk slap envelope filter? Like how does the autowah compares with say a qtron

Filters are not the M5's strong point. It does chorus and octaver really well, but the filters and distortions miss the mark IMHO!

I use it when I need something I don't already have on my pedalboard. It's got really good modulation and delay models, the octaver is great, not very good at distortions/overdrives but it can pull a decent fuzz or distortion if needed. The real beauty of this unit is the capability of being "the other guy" in the board, It can be a scoop EQ for some slap stuff, a booster for solos, a parametric mid boost EQ for adding some vintage amp "mojo", and any crazy filtered "Jamiroquai" stuff if needed. It won't replace your day to day pedals, but it's definitively a very useful high quality tool.

I've had the M5 for about a year now, confined on my "studio" board, to basically act as a rackmounted effects for bass and guitar. I always thought it did modulation very well, but I recently toying with the flangers and that AC Flanger is quite awesome (the others were also very good). This thing is so good I'm actually thinking about replacing the MS60B with the M5 on my pedalboard, as I now need an always-on (almost) flanger for this I started playing with.

Do we know on what flanger the AC is based on ?

Zombie thread bump. Great useful input so far. I was bass multi effects shopping at GC and the guy was pushing this really hard. Not sure if he makes commission or if its really that good at what it does.

My questions focus on what I see as 2 drwabacks:
Is the more $$ M9 capable of level matching between patches,
and can it run multiple effects simultaneously (i think so)

At this point, buying an M series seems like an investment in old science. The HX FX has all the Legacy M series models, and infinitely more in the way of models, features, signal flow and gain staging. I used an M13 for years, but never gigged with it. Every obstacle the M series has in creating ease of use, on the fly live adjustability, has been eliminated by the HX FX.
