Line 6 M9 & M13 Club

I've read posts in the past by Rich from Line 6 that seemed to say adding a blend for the distortions was not a possibility, but I am not giving up hope! I am pulling for at least one or two bass-based distortion and OD effects in the next update - hope that is soon!

One thing is definite though, while posting here is great it won't yield actual results. We have to post over in the forums on the Line 6 site. Rich has stated as much in more than a few posts.

Keep the faith! The M9 is definitely killer though.

This box keeps tempting me... there's a handful of effects I want to add to my board, but money is kinda tight right now... and the M9 offers most of what I'm looking for (modulation and synthy stuff, and the ability to get experimental) at about half the price of getting individual pedals.

The only problem is, I futzed around with the M9 in GC a few weeks ago, and came away not too terribly impressed. I spent 20 or 30 minutes checking out presets and twiddling knobs, but I just couldn't get anything I was happy with... but I know that there's a lot of bass players getting a lot of good sounds out of these... so I have a feeling it's user error.

I still have an itch for expanding my pedalboard, and feel like doing some effects shopping this weekend. I'd like to give the M9 another chance. Can y'all recommend some settings or presets to dial in so I can give the M9 a fair shake? Or some models that work particularly well on bass?

Add me to the list! My M13 will be here Thursday. I've replaced all my pedals with this, a pair of expression pedals, and a special blender pedal to combat tone suck for the distortions and other FX without mix options. It'll be mated with a Mesa M9 Carbine and Vintage PH410. Basses will be two customs, one with Nordy Dual Coils and the other with a pair of Nordy MM5.2s. I'll review the set-up after a few days of tweaking, then again after some gigs.

Count me in.
The only thing missing on M9 is master bypass switch and the compressor is horrible (I never found any good digital compressor anyway).
I don't really care with the lack of blend control on the distortions as I run it through the fx loop on my EBS Microbass. It works well as it is.

The compressors work a lot better with a weak input signal. I have to run my basses really weak to get any of the triggered/ envelope controlled effects to sound right. My hottest bass has to be dropped down to about 2 to get these to work right. The easiest way for me to find the right range is to use the Trons and adjust volume to find the sweet spot.

I don't know if this would work for you since you have the IQ and the Microbass set up for the hotter signal. You may still not like the sound of it anyway.

But it doesn't really matter as I have Multicomp & BassIQ.

A lot of clubs are just for chat and show and tell, sure. But when I started this club a while back, it was because the M9/M13 are, of course guitar-centric effects units. There is a surprising amount of usable stuff for bass and the bass octaver alone is the best I've played - but still, it's geared towards guitar. So I wanted to have a place where we could get together and share our experiences, ideas, experiments and knowledge, etc for a bass-centric usage of the M9 & M13.

And that's why this club!

I sold my M9 and then got it back (the same one :) ), man I happy I did. Originally i was dissatisfied with the Chorus, but after getting eventide pedals, I was happy with the relative simplicity on the M9.

The M9 (and assume the M13) really is a great piece of gear.

Thanks for explanation, that makes a lot of sense. I'm still not getting the number thing.

Anyway, I have a M9 myself, that's why I ask in that thread. I really like it, especially the Harmony thing and the pitch (for octave up). I haven't spend too much time on the oderdrives/distortions but I didn't like them that much. With every chorus etc. there is the mix control, but sadly not with the overdrives/distortions.

I just bought the X&M from sfxsound and hopefully it will work with the M9 together.
